Job summary

Thread, a leading fashion ecommerce company in Australia, seeks a Junior Maintenance Technician to maintain conveyors, robots, sorters and packing machines at our Sydney fulfilment centre.

You will perform planned preventative maintenance, respond to faults, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, collaborating with Operations, Warehouse and Automation Engineers to keep the automated material handling equipment running safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification or equivalent in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or industrial maintenance.
  • Experience in industrial maintenance and automated MHE is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Familiarity with CMMS such as SAP PM, Maximo, UpKeep or Llumin is desirable.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety, PPE and permit-to-work knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventive maintenance on conveyors, robots, sorters and packing equipment.
  • Respond to equipment abnormalities and breakdowns with first-line diagnosis and repairs within scope.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and automated equipment issues.
  • Assist with PLC/HMI, VFDs, pneumatics and hydraulics repairs as required.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to minimise disruption to fulfilment operations.

Junior Maintenance Technician (Rotating Roster Dayworker & Shiftworker)

Our Fulfilment Centre (FC) Operations team is made up of four core departments – Inventory, Outbound, Inbound and Marketplace – operating around the clock to ensure our customers receive their products in great condition and quickly. Our FC is equipped with active pick towers, ASRS (Automated Storage & Retrieval System) and the AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robots).

A Bit About The Role

This role will help keep our automated material handling equipment operating safely, reliably and efficiently. You will support the maintenance of conveyors, robots, sorters, packing machines and other automated equipment.

You will also complete planned preventative maintenance, respond to equipment faults and breakdowns, and work closely with Operations, Warehouse teams, Automation Engineers, OEMs and integration partners.

Roster: In this role you will be on a rotating roster of a dayworker and shiftworker

What You Will Do
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance on conveyors, robots, sorters and packing equipment
  • Respond to equipment abnormalities and breakdowns, completing initial diagnosis, containment and repairs within your authorised scope
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and automated equipment issues
  • Support authorised repairs involving PLC/HMI systems, VFDs, pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical components
  • Escalate incidents to OEMs, integration partners or internal teams in line with the escalation process
  • Complete accurate work orders, maintenance logs and documentation in the CMMS
  • Help maintain equipment availability and meet key performance targets, including uptime, MTTR and MTBF
  • Manage critical spare parts, tools and repair kits to support fast and effective maintenance
  • Work with the Automation Engineer to investigate root causes and implement reliability improvements
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations and Warehouse teams to minimise disruption to fulfilment activities
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment when required
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, including Kaizen, 5S and TPM
  • Identify and implement practical improvements to equipment, processes and maintenance activities
Here’s what you need to set you off on this journey
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
  • A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn
  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
  • Knowledge of safe isolation procedures is desirable
  • A trade qualification, technical certificate, apprenticeship progress or equivalent practical experience in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or industrial maintenance is preferred
  • Previous exposure to industrial maintenance, automated MHE, manufacturing or warehouse equipment is preferred
  • The ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings is preferred
  • An understanding of safe work practices, PPE and permit-to-work requirements
  • Experience using a CMMS, such as SAP PM, Maximo, UpKeep or Llumin, is desirable
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with technical and operational teams
  • A willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing priorities
