Job summary

Berrigan Doube Lawyers, a Sydney-based firm with a long history dating back to 1927, seeks a junior lawyer to develop litigation and advocacy skills within a small, supportive team.

You will draft court documents, conduct research, and assist with both litigation and property matters, including leasing, contracts and due diligence. A current Australian practising certificate or eligibility is required.

Responsibilities

• Draft letters of advice and letters of demand, pleadings, applications and court documents.
• Conduct legal research and case analysis.

• Assist with discovery, chronologies, court books and hearing materials.
• Attend conferences, mediations, tribunals and court hearings.
• Handle property work including leases, contracts of sale and due diligence.
• Support with property financing and mortgage-related transactions.

Job description

Key responsibilities

• Litigation:
  • Preparing letters of advice and letters of demand
  • Drafting pleadings, applications and other court documents
  • Preparing affidavits and witness statements
  • Legal research and case analysis
  • Preparing briefs to counsel
  • Working directly with barristers and expert witnesses
  • Discovery and preparation of evidence
  • Preparing chronologies, court books and hearing materials
  • Mediation and settlement negotiations
  • Attending conferences, mediations, tribunals and court hearings
• Property:
  • Commercial property acquisitions and disposals
  • Commercial, retail and industrial leasing
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts for sale
  • Property due diligence and transaction investigations
  • Reviewing leases, tenancy schedules and property documentationStrata and owners corporation issues
  • Negotiating amendments to contracts and leases
  • Assisting with property financing and mortgage-related transactions
