Job summary

Sydney Composites is seeking a Junior Composite Engineer to design, engineer and manufacture composite parts. The role involves CAD, simulations, and shop-floor activities including lamination, curing and finishing to bring concepts to finished components.

Ideal candidates are recent grads up to 2 years in design engineering with composites exposure, proficient in Fusion 360, SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and eager to learn in a hands-on environment across aerospace, automotive and defence applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Recent graduates up to 2 years' experience in design engineering, preferably in composites.
• Hands-on experience with composite layup or fabrication.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Comfortable working in a workshop environment with resins and carbon fibre.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work closely with production staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drawings, ply books, specifications and technical reports.

Junior Composite Engineer - Design & Manufacturing

At Sydney Composites, a Junior Composites Engineer will be involved in designing, engineering and manufacturing composite parts. This hands on role will involve CAD and simulation, and working on the factory floor laminating, bagging, curing and finishing parts, taking your designs from concept through to finished component.

Key responsibilities

• Design composite components, tooling and structures in CAD
• Run analyses such as FEA, stress calculations and laminate design, and support material testing
• Prepare drawings, ply books, specifications and technical reports
• Laminate parts with prepreg and wet/infusion processes, including ply cutting, layup, vacuum bagging and cure
• Feed what you learn on the floor back into designs, and improve processes and techniques

Other Opportunities

• Work with customers and the production team to turn requirements into practical designs
• Operate workshop equipment and power tools, (if experienced, CNC machining and 3D scanning)
• Prepare moulds and tooling, and demould, trim and finish parts

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field
• Recent graduates up to 2 years' experience in design engineering, preferably in composites
• Hands-on experience with composite layup or fabrication, through industry work, FSAE, UAV, Solar Cars, Rocketry or similar projects
• Proficiency in CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks or AutoCAD
• Comfortable working in a workshop environment, including wearing PPE and handling resins and carbon fibre
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with production staff
• A drive to keep learning and improving
