Job summary

JB Caravans Newcastle is seeking an experienced Service Technician to join our workshop, performing servicing, diagnostics, warranty and repair work on caravans, motorhomes and campervans.

The role reports to the Service Manager; a relevant trade qualification or RV service experience is required, with strong fault-finding across mechanical, electrical, plumbing and cabinetry. LPG and 240V licences are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in automotive or RV servicing, or equivalent RV experience.
• Experience with 12V systems and RV appliances.
• LPG gas work and 240V electrical work licences are preferred.
• Current Australian driver's licence and ability to tow caravans.

Responsibilities

• Service, diagnose and repair caravans, motorhomes and campervans to manufacturer specs.
• Carry out pre-delivery inspections and warranty repairs.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop and complete accurate job documentation.
• Work with Service Manager on estimates and parts ordering.
• Road test and quality-check completed work before handover.

Service Technician - JB Caravans Newcastle

JB Caravans is a leading RV dealership specialising in caravans, motorhomes and campervans. We pride ourselves on quality workmanship, doing the job right the first time, and giving every customer a professional service experience.

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Service Technician to join our workshop at JB Caravans Newcastle and support the continued growth of our RV service operations.

About the Role

Reporting to the Service Manager, you will carry out servicing, diagnostics, warranty and repair work on caravans, motorhomes and campervans. This is a hands-on workshop role suited to a tradesperson who takes pride in their work, documents it properly, and can solve problems across mechanical, electrical, plumbing and cabinetry systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Service, diagnose and repair caravans, motorhomes and campervans to manufacturer specification.
• Chassis and running gear: suspension, shock absorbers, brakes, wheel bearings, couplings, jockey wheels, corner steadies and towing components.
• 12V DC systems: batteries, solar panels and regulators, DC-DC chargers, inverters, lighting, fault-finding and wiring repairs.
• RV appliances: fridges, hot water systems, heaters, cooktops, air conditioners, awnings, slide-outs, TV and entertainment systems.
• Water and waste systems: fresh and grey water tanks, pumps, taps, toilets, showers and leak detection.
• Body, structural and sealing work: panel, window, hatch and door repairs, roof and seam resealing, water-ingress diagnosis and rectification, internal cabinetry and furniture repairs.
• Complete warranty repairs in line with manufacturer requirements, including accurate job cards, parts used, labour times and supporting photographs.
• Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDI), rectify defects and prepare units for customer handover.
• Complete insurance and accident-damage repairs as allocated.
• Road test and quality-check completed work before sign-off.
• Work with the Service Advisor and Service Manager on diagnosis, repair estimates, parts ordering and realistic completion times.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop, look after tools and equipment, and comply with all workplace health, safety and environmental requirements, including correct PPE and safe work procedures.

Note: LPG gas work and 240V electrical work are performed only by appropriately licensed personnel. Technicians holding these licences are encouraged to apply.

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience as a caravan, RV, marine, automotive, heavy vehicle or auto-electrical technician.
• A relevant trade qualification (automotive, auto electrical, carpentry/cabinetmaking, plumbing or similar) or demonstrated equivalent RV service experience.
• Sound understanding of 12V systems and RV appliances, and the ability to read wiring diagrams and manufacturer service manuals.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability across multiple systems.
• Gas Work (LPG) Authorisation, restricted electrical licence or Certificate III in Automotive/RV servicing will be highly regarded.
• Current Australian driver's licence; experience towing and manoeuvring caravans is an advantage.
• Own hand tools and the ability to work unsupervised and manage your own workload.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate job documentation.
• Physically fit and comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights and on your feet.
• Professional presentation and a strong team-focused attitude.
