Job summary

Whizdom is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to deliver secure, scalable API services in a government environment. You will design and implement RESTful APIs in Java, aligned with HL7 FHIR, and integrate with complex clinical and administrative systems.

Working in a regulated setting, you will apply modern development practices, implement OAuth 2.0 authentication, and participate in DevSecOps, logging, monitoring and data transformation across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience with Java and HL7 FHIR in healthcare environments.
• Experience designing secure RESTful APIs.

• Experience containerising applications and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong logging, auditing and privacy compliance.

Senior Software Engineer – Java / APIs / FHIR

• Location: Brisbane or Canberra
• Contract: 12 months with possible extensions
• Mandatory: Australian Citizenship and able to obtain and maintain a Baseline clearance.

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Software Engineer to contribute to a complex Government environment delivering secure, scalable API services that integrate with a broad range of internal and external systems.

You will work within a highly regulated technology environment supporting a sophisticated API Gateway and associated security, integration, platform, data, monitoring and DevSecOps capabilities.

This role will suit an experienced consulting engineer who is comfortable working across the full software development lifecycle and has strong experience with Java, REST APIs and contemporary development practices.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

We are looking for demonstrated commercial experience across:

• Java
• HL7 FHIR
• Healthcare applications or healthcare technology environments
• API and application testing, including REST, performance and unit testing
• OAuth
• Containerisation and an understanding of end-to-end container delivery
• Privacy, auditing and logging
• DevOps / GitOps practices
• End-to-end testing

Eligibility & Security Requirements

• Australian Citizenship is mandatory.
• Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a higher clearance if required.
• Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a National Police Check.
