Job summary

Ignite Services seeks an experienced IT Networks Manager for a Federal Government Entity based in Canberra. You will lead a small technical team, ensuring the reliability, security and performance of the organisation's network and infrastructure services.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on expertise across enterprise networking, virtualization, cloud services and data centre operations, with occasional out-of-hours work and budget oversight.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience managing enterprise network environments.
  • Experience with routing, switching, WAN, VPNs and network security.
  • Experience leading infrastructure and network projects from planning to delivery.
  • Strong vendor and contract management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operation, maintenance and optimisation of enterprise network infrastructure (LAN/WAN/Wi‑Fi).
  • Manage network connectivity, routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs.
  • Oversee network monitoring, performance, availability and resilience.
  • Manage ICT budgets, procurement and reporting.
  • Lead infrastructure upgrades and technology improvement projects.
  • Mentor team members and provide executive-level briefings.

About the Opportunity

A Federal Government Entity is seeking an experienced IT Networks Manager to lead the management, support and continuous improvement of a complex enterprise network environment.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and leading a small technical team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security and performance of the organisation's network and infrastructure services. This role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on technical expertise across enterprise networking, virtualisation, cloud‑connected services and data centre operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior networking professional who enjoys both operational leadership and technical delivery within a highly secure environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the operation, maintenance and optimisation of enterprise network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN and wireless environments.
  • Manage network connectivity, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs and network security technologies.
  • Oversee network monitoring, performance management, availability and resilience initiatives.
  • Manage enterprise infrastructure platforms including virtualisation, compute, storage and cloud services.
  • Lead infrastructure upgrades, network refresh activities and technology improvement projects.
  • Troubleshoot complex network and infrastructure issues and provide technical leadership during incidents.
  • Manage managed service providers, vendor contracts and service delivery outcomes.
  • Oversee ICT operational budgets, procurement activities and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Prepare reports, briefings and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor team members and foster a collaborative, high‑performing technical culture.
  • Support project implementations and critical business activities which may require occasional out‑of‑hours work.
About You

You are a highly capable network and infrastructure leader with strong technical expertise and a proactive, customer‑focused approach.

You will demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience managing enterprise network environments.
  • Strong expertise in routing, switching, wireless networking and WAN technologies.
  • Proven experience with firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation, network monitoring and security controls.
  • Experience supporting virtualisation platforms, server infrastructure, storage environments and cloud services.
  • Demonstrated experience leading infrastructure and network projects from planning through to delivery.
  • Strong vendor management, contract management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience managing ICT budgets, procurement activities and operational expenditure.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive briefing and reporting experience.
  • The ability to lead a technical team while remaining hands‑on with critical network operations.
Desirable Qualifications

The following qualifications and certifications will be highly regarded:

  • Qualifications in Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be Australian Citizens.
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance.
Location Requirement

This position is based in Canberra, ACT. Due to operational requirements, only candidates currently residing in Canberra will be considered.
