Job summary

ACCIONA is seeking an interpreter on a site-based assignment to facilitate communication between English- and Portuguese-speaking crews. The role involves interpreting during toolbox talks, pre-start meetings and day-to-day work, and translating safety notices and procedures to ensure accurate understanding on site.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will support supervisors and crew leaders, attend inductions and safety briefings, and help bridge communication gaps to prevent safety issues.

Qualifications

• Fluency in both English and Portuguese, written and spoken.
• Experience in construction or high-risk environments is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety terminology in both languages.
• Clear, confident communication and ability to build rapport across crews.
• Construction Induction (White Card), or willingness to obtain one.
• Ability to stay calm and accurate when interpreting under pressure.

ACEREZ, a partnership of ACCIONA, COBRA and Endeavour Energy, has been appointed network operator by Energy Co to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) transmission network. The ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct (D&C) consortium, will design and build the Central-West Orana REZ transmission project.
The Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Transmission Project will build new high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and supporting infrastructure to transfer power generated by solar and wind projects to electricity consumers. The new infrastructure is expected to be operational by 2028 and will initially unlock up to 4.5 gigawatts of new network capacity.
The project consists of 90km of 500kV overhead transmission lines and 150 km of 330kV transmission lines for generator connections, stretching from Elong Elong in the west through to Barigan Creek in the east, via an energy hub at Merotherie.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll interpret between English and Portuguese so our crews always understand what's being asked of them, especially when it comes to work instructions and safety.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Required Skills and Competencies

You're fluent in English and Portuguese, and just as comfortable interpreting a safety briefing as you are a conversation on the tools. You'll bring:

• Fluency in both English and Portuguese, written and spoken.
  
• Previous experience working in a construction, industrial or other high-risk environment is highly regarded.
  
• A solid understanding of workplace health and safety terminology in both languages.
  
• Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to build rapport across different crews.
  
• A Construction Induction (White Card), or a willingness to obtain one.
  
• The ability to stay calm and accurate when interpreting under pressure.

Interpreter positions are bus in, bus out, with camp-style accommodation provided on a 14 days on/7 days off roster, based out of the Central West Orana Region
