Job summary

Sunshine Coast Council's My Summer Workplace program invites current students or recent graduates to join the Fleet Management team in Caloundra for a 12-week, paid internship.

Work four days per week (28 hours) from November 2026 to February 2027, with a 2-week unpaid break over Christmas. This role provides hands-on experience in asset records, fleet coordination, and stakeholder liaison, with mentoring from professionals and exposure to multiple councils' operations.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a tertiary course and completed 16+ subjects
• Recently graduated from university within 12 months
• Recently completed a TAFE Diploma within 12 months
• Able to attend the Assessment Centre on 29 October 2026
• Australian working rights: Citizen (AU/NZ), Permanent Resident, or current visa with working rights for the program

• Maintain Fleet asset records, utilisation data, and system integrity.
• Coordinate fleet assets including vehicles, plant, equipment, and contracted hire services.
• Support fleet reporting, cost analysis, and data collection for asset management and decisions.
• Provide responsive customer service, stakeholder liaison, and contribute to process improvements and projects.

About My Summer Workplace

Are you currently studying, or have recently graduated and needing to gain experience within the industry? My Summer Workplace is a 12-week paid internship program with Sunshine Coast Council that will equip you with the skills, opportunities, networks and confidence you need to step into your chosen career.

Commencing in November 2026 and concluding February 2027, you will need to be available to work four days per week for this 12-week period. Note - There will be a 2-week unpaid break over the Christmas period.

About this Internship

Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Fleet Management team, ensuring accurate asset records, effective resource coordination, responsive customer service, and data-driven support for fleet operations and decision-making.

As the Intern – Fleet Services, you will gain experience and exposure to:

• Maintain accurate fleet asset records and monitor documentation, utilisation data, and system integrity.
• Support the administration and coordination of fleet assets, including vehicles, plant, equipment, and contracted hire services.
• Assist with fleet reporting, cost analysis, and data collection to support asset management and operational decisions.
• Deliver responsive customer service, stakeholder liaison, vehicle handovers, and contribute to continuous process improvements and project support activities.

About you:

To be eligible for My Summer Workplace, you must:

• Be enrolled in a tertiary course and have completed 16 or more subjects, or;
• Have recently graduated from university (within 12 months of graduation); or
• Have recently completed a TAFE Diploma (within 12 months of graduation);
• Be able to attend the Assessment Centre on 29 October 2026
• Possess Australian working rights:
  • Citizen (AU/NZ)
  • Permanent Resident
  • Current valid visa, with unrestricted working rights for the duration of the program
