Job summary

Sunshine Coast Council is offering multiple paid internships under the My Summer Workplace program for tertiary students and recent graduates. The role runs 23 November 2026 – 12 February 2027, 28 hours per week over 4 days, at locations Maroochydore and Caloundra.

The 12-week internship begins in November 2026 with a 2-week unpaid Christmas break. You will gain exposure to civil construction projects from planning through delivery while being mentored by industry professionals.

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled in a tertiary course and have completed 16 or more subjects, or;
  • Have recently graduated from university (within 12 months of graduation); or
  • Have recently completed a TAFE Diploma (within 12 months of graduation);
  • Be able to attend the Assessment Centre on 29 October 2026
  • Possess Australian working rights: Permanent Resident or current visa with unrestricted working rights for duration of program

Responsibilities

  • Gain hands-on experience delivering road, drainage and landfill projects.
  • Support project engineers with planning, coordination and project delivery.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Track project progress and help keep key milestones on schedule.
  • Assist with project documentation, reporting and contract administration.
  • Work alongside experienced professionals across the full project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to safe, sustainable and high-quality construction outcomes.
  • Build practical skills and industry knowledge in a real-world environment.

Education

About My Summer Workplace

Are you currently studying, or have recently graduated and needing to gain experience within the industry? My Summer Workplace is a 12-week paid internship program with Sunshine Coast Council that will equip you with the skills, opportunities, networks and confidence you need to step into your chosen career.

Commencing in November 2026 and concluding February 2027, you will need to be available to work four days per week for this 12-week period. Note - There will be a 2-week unpaid break over the Christmas period.
