Job summary

Firbank Grammar School in Sandringham (Melbourne) seeks a part-time Mandarin Teacher to join our Junior School. The role covers Prep to Year 6 within a Primary Years Programme (PYP) environment, collaborating with teachers to deliver engaging Mandarin learning experiences.

The position is fixed-term for 2027, with one full day (0.2FTE) and flexible scheduling. The successful candidate will foster a safe, inclusive classroom and inspire young learners in language and culture.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher with demonstrated capability in teaching Mandarin
• Excellent Mandarin language skills
• Experience teaching primary-aged students
• Enthusiastic about working within an IB PYP environment
• Values inquiry-based learning and authentic connections to the curriculum
• Enthusiastic about sharing and celebrating Chinese culture across the school community
• Creative and initiative-driven in cultural celebrations and learning opportunities
• Engaging, developmentally appropriate and student-centred learning experiences

• Organised and committed to high-quality teaching and learning

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging Mandarin learning experiences for students from Prep to Year 6
• Develop students' confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing Mandarin
• Use creative, interactive teaching approaches suitable for young learners
• Work within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to connect Mandarin learning to PYP units
• Foster curiosity and understanding of Chinese language, culture and life
• Help plan whole-school initiatives celebrating Chinese culture
• Differentiate learning for varying language abilities
• Assess and monitor student learning and provide feedback
• Contribute to the Junior School's life and culture
• Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
