Job summary

IT Alliance is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer at EL1 level for a long-term Canberra-based contract. The role involves leading ICT infrastructure deliverables, maintaining virtual service environments, and coordinating data centre operations on-site for the initial three months.

The ideal candidate will have strong Windows/AD, SCCM, SCOM, Exchange, DNS/DHCP, and networking skills, plus experience across data centres, storage fabrics, and Linux/AIX platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience with Windows Server and Active Directory in government or large enterprise environments.
• Hands-on with SCCM, Hyper-V, SCOM, Exchange and related IP networking.
• Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, routing/switching, and firewall technologies.
• Familiarity with data centre design, migration and storage fabrics.
• Experience with Linux (Red Hat) and IBM AIX in x86 environments.
• Understanding of secure gateways and internet security infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on ICT projects and deliverables.
• Maintain and upgrade VSE environments and supported servers.
• Design, develop, test and maintain virtual service solutions with stakeholders.
• Configure and deploy virtual services and servers per application models.
• Lead analysis, planning and execution for performance improvements.
• Promote adoption of virtual services to ICT stakeholders and project teams.
• Support project teams in maintaining their own virtual service environments.
• Support secure internet gateway, data centre, and network services operations.
• Assist in major/minor projects for departmental initiatives.
• Manage capacity planning including mainframe related services.
• Coordinate with external/internal service providers as required.
• Oversee lifecycle of ICT infrastructure assets and data centre footprint.
• Travel interstate as required and deliver formal documentation.

Job description

One of our Federal Government Clients is seeking to engage a Senior Infrastructure Engineer - (EL1 Level). This is a long-term contractual position.

Contract Duration: 7.5 Months + 24 months

Work Location: Canberra (full-time on site for 3 months)

Eligibility: You must need to have Baseline Security Clearance or above.

Niche/core experience to target

• Providing technical expertise to projects and business areas, and leads the technical deliverables;
• Maintaining, monitoring and upgrading the Virtual Service Environment (VSE) environments and servers;
• Planning, designing, developing, testing and maintaining new or existing virtual service developments in accordance with guidelines and in collaboration with stakeholders;
• Configuring and deploying virtual services and servers in accordance with the applications operational model governed by application owners;
• Defining and leading the analysis, planning, execution, delivery and performance improvement activities using appropriate tools;
• Promoting the adoption of virtual services to ICT stakeholders and project teams through workshops;
• Providing support and guidance to project teams for maintaining their own virtual service environments.
• Undertaking a range of activities in support of the management and operation of the Department’s secure Internet gateway, secure systems, data centre and network services;
• Implementing major/minor project work to support Departmental initiatives;
• Undertaking enhancement and remediation activities across network and gateway systems;
• Managing multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines;
• Liaising with external and internal service providers as required;
• Providing support with infrastructure capacity and planning including mainframe;
• Providing server and networking infrastructure management across geographically dispersed environments;
• Providing fleet management and lifecycle oversight of ICT infrastructure assets;
• Providing data centre operations management, including service delivery and vendor coordination;
• Providing data centre footprint optimisation across commercial and departmental facilities nationwide;
• Travelling interstate as required.
