Job summary

RACV is seeking a hands-on technical leader to drive infrastructure automation across on‑premises and hybrid cloud environments. You will shape automation strategy, mentor engineers, and work with Security, Architecture, and DevOps teams to modernise delivery of infrastructure services.

The role emphasises implementing IaC, governance, and scalable automation practices, while balancing delivery and on-call responsibilities within a diverse Technology Platforms team.

Qualifications

• Hands-on technical leader with a focus on automation and modern infrastructure practices.
• Experience delivering automation across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.
• Strong Azure experience; AWS exposure beneficial.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and uplift capability.

About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands‑on technical leader who thrives on automation, modern infrastructure practices, and mentoring engineering teams. You'll play a key role in shaping RACV's infrastructure automation strategy across on‑premises and hybrid cloud environments while helping uplift capability across our Technology Platforms team.

Reporting to the Technology Platforms Manager, you'll lead the design, implementation and continual improvement of infrastructure automation capabilities across RACV's technology environment. Working closely with Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, and Architecture teams, you'll help reduce operational complexity and modernise the way infrastructure is delivered and managed.

Key responsibilities include

• Driving automation across infrastructure provisioning, configuration, patching and lifecycle management.
• Developing and evolving Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration management practices, standards and reusable templates.
• Improving platform provisioning, management, resilience, and operational efficiency through automation.
• Acting as the technical authority for infrastructure automation and modern engineering practices.
• Providing technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to engineers across the infrastructure team.
• Contributing to solution design and architecture while remaining hands‑on with engineering and delivery activities.
• Partnering with security teams to embed security and compliance controls into automated infrastructure solutions.
• Participating in a shared on-call roster to support critical platforms and services.

What you’ll need to be successful

• Strong experience designing and implementing infrastructure automation solutions.
• Experience working across hybrid environments, including on‑premises infrastructure (ideally Dell) and cloud platforms.
• Strong Azure experience, with exposure to AWS beneficial.
• Hands‑on experience managing the full lifecycle of Windows Server and Linux operating system environments.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, configuration management and orchestration tools such as Bicep, Terraform, Ansible or similar technologies.
• Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, virtualisation, compute, storage and platform services including monitoring, incident and change.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to a broad audience.
• Strong skills in problem solving, providing technical guidance, and capability uplift.
• A passion for mentoring others and process improvement.
