Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia, Department of Opportunities and Social Development, seeks Local Area Coordinators to support people with disabilities in living self-directed lives within inclusive communities.

You will work with individuals, families, and service providers, building partnerships and promoting rights-based planning while navigating adaptive communication and trauma-informed care considerations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, or related field.
• Two (2) years of experience in a relevant role supporting individuals with disabilities, community development, or social services.

Responsibilities

• Support people with disabilities to plan for their life and build strong, lasting support networks.
• Advocate for access to services and enhanced connections to community supports.
• Collaborate with regional hubs and local organizations to strengthen communities and promote inclusion.
• Promote person-directed planning, supportive decision-making, and UN CRPD principles.
