Job summary

CQID is recruiting for a Program Mentor - Reconnection, Employment and Learning (REAL) based in Rockhampton, Queensland. This full-time permanent role supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants transitioning from incarceration into the community, delivering personalised mentoring and practical assistance.

Under supervision, the Mentor maintains a participant caseload and develops Individual Action Plans while providing outreach across pre-release, release and post-release stages

Qualifications

• Knowledge of factors contributing to incarceration and recidivism.
• Understanding of trauma, grief and loss, adverse childhood experiences and social disadvantage.
• Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities and contemporary issues.
• Understanding of culturally safe, trauma-informed, strengths-based and participant-led service delivery.
• Understanding of practical barriers experienced by people transitioning from custody to community.
• Strong communication, engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to build rapport and maintain mentoring relationships with participants.
• Ability to support participant-led goal setting and translate goals into practical actions.
• Ability to work effectively across correctional, community and outreach settings.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving and time management skills.
• Experience working within human services, community services, corrections, employment, education, training or related sectors.
• Experience providing direct support, mentoring, case management or outreach services.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing complex social and personal challenges.
• Experience building service connections, coordinating referrals and supporting warm handover.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an allocated participant caseload and provide mentoring and support throughout the REAL journey.
• Build culturally safe, respectful relationships and support participant choice and goals.
• Engage participants prior to release and during post-release periods.
• Conduct regular participant contact through correctional visits, community engagement, outreach, phone and online servicing.
• Monitor participant progress, risks and barriers and respond flexibly to needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
• Elevate complex matters to the Program Coordinator per CQID policies.
