This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership, technical expertise and service governance across a complex portfolio of clinical and business applications, integrations and databases. Reporting to the ICT Manager, you will lead the strategic design, management, maintenance and continuous improvement of key systems that support patient care, business operations and organisational decision-making.

As part of WGHG’s evolving ICT structure, this role offers the opportunity to lead and support ICT staff, coordinate priorities and resources, work closely with vendors and stakeholders, and contribute to meaningful service improvements across the organisation.

About the Role

The ICT Application & Database Team Leader is responsible for leading the governance, support, maintenance and continuous improvement of WGHG’s applications, integrations and databases. Working closely with internal stakeholders, Gippsland Health Alliance, vendors and ICT team members, you will help ensure systems are secure, reliable, well documented and aligned with organisational priorities.

  • Providing day-to-day leadership, guidance, coaching and support to ICT staff.
  • Contributing to ICT projects, system upgrades, testing, implementation planning, procurement activities and post-implementation reviews.
  • Developing procedures, technical standards, architecture documentation, user guidance, reports and improvement recommendations.
  • Supporting a positive, customer-focused team culture aligned with WGHG values and service expectations.
About You

You are a collaborative and experienced ICT professional who enjoys leading people, solving complex technical problems and improving the systems that support healthcare services.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or significant technical knowledge with substantial demonstrated experience in a senior ICT support, application, database or service delivery role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coordinating or mentoring ICT staff within an application, database or service delivery environment.
  • Proven experience in the leadership, provision, governance and continuous improvement of application and database administration services in a complex environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of applications, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Server, SQL and Transact‑SQL.
  • Working knowledge of ETL tools, including SQL Server Integration Services, data security and query optimisation techniques.
  • Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • The ability to lead service improvements, manage competing priorities and provide specialist advice on complex ICT application and database matters.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The following would be considered advantageous:

  • A current ITIL certification or knowledge of IT service management frameworks.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment, including supporting clinical applications.
  • Knowledge of Linux server operating systems or database systems other than Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with report writing, Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, VMware, PowerShell, SharePoint, Power Apps, application development or Software as a Service integrations.
