Job summary

Matthews Steer Accountants and Advisors is seeking an Intermediate Accountant in Melbourne to handle financial statements, tax returns and planning for SME and high-net-worth clients. You will support growth through strategic management accounting and coach graduates, while delivering high-quality client service.

The role requires a Bachelor in Accounting, CA/CPA in progress, and 2+ years in Australian public practice, with strong Xero and MS Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in accounting or related field.
• 2+ years Australian Public Practice experience.
• Experience servicing SME and high net worth clients; preparation of financial statements and tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies and trusts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial accounts and income tax returns, provide tax planning recommendations and address Div 7A, FBT and CGT issues.
• Contribute to strategic management accounting tools and advice for client base growth.
• Coach and develop Graduate Accountants on the job.
• Support in building client relationships and delivering value.

About the Role

As a Intermediate Accountant, you will:

• Take technical responsibilities including the preparation of financial accounts and income tax returns, providing tax planning recommendations, identifying tax issues, and applying expertise in Div 7A, FBT, and CGT.
• Have active involvement in strategic management accounting tools and advice to support our growing client base.
• Contribute to the development of Graduate Accountants through on-the-job coaching.

About you

You’ll be a good fit for the Intermediate Accountant role if you have:

• Completed Bachelor of Business or Commerce (Accounting).
• Studying CA/CPA
• 2+ years of experience in Australian Public Practice Accounting
• Experienced in servicing SME clients and high net worth individuals, and you’re a gun at preparing financial statements and tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, and trusts.
• Intermediate to advanced software skills in accounting packages (Xero preferred) and Microsoft Office.
• A driven professional ready to grow into a standout client-facing role
• Relationship-driven leader dedicated to building the capability and empowerment of colleagues.
• Excellent communicator, comfortable engaging with clients and colleagues at all levels
• Direct management of client portfolio will be viewed favourably.
