Job summary

Optus in Sydney is seeking a Technical Specialist to collaborate with managed service providers, vendors and internal teams to implement network strategies and improve operations. This role sits in a Tier 2 Network Operations team and offers development opportunities in stakeholder engagement, fault resolution and leadership skills.

Based at Macquarie Park, the position is on-site with a rotating shift roster across morning, afternoon and night, supporting complex incidents and network changes

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or Science.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in multi-vendor Metro/Long-Haul DWDM networks.
• Solid understanding of DWDM technologies (ROADM, TOADM, Optical Amplifiers), SyncE and PTP protocols.

Responsibilities

• Execute technical operational processes and provide technical support to maintain network availability.
• Respond to incidents escalated by Managed Services and assist in resolution.
• Support Problem Management with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Manage escalations from Service Assurance Managers on critical incidents.
• Assist with planning and execution of network changes, expansions, and upgrades.
• Recommend improvements to network design to enhance performance and reliability.
• Ensure all planned changes meet Optus' quality and performance policies.
• Support continuous improvement activities with Engineering, Vendors, and Managed Services.
• Contribute to tools strategy and automation with operational insights.
• Participate in alarm filtering, correlation analysis, and service assurance automation.
• Provide input into weekly/monthly KPI and SLA reporting.
• Act as a knowledge resource for peers and contribute to team training.
