Job summary

Cairns Regional Council is seeking a highly organised Human Resources Project Officer to drive the development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures. You will coordinate projects, engage stakeholders, and ensure compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.

The role focuses on supporting HR priorities, change initiatives, and the delivery of resources and guidance for staff.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, HR, project management or a related discipline.
  • Experience in HR, project administration or business support.
  • Ability to support project planning, coordination, monitoring and delivery.
  • Knowledge of employment legislation, HR policies, procedures and compliance.
  • Experience reviewing and maintaining HR policies, forms and intranet content.
  • High-level computer literacy and ability to prepare clear project documentation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, implement and continuously improve HR policies, procedures, systems and resources to meet legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Support delivery of HR priorities and change initiatives through stakeholder engagement, communication, research, reporting and project coordination.
  • Contribute to policy development, updates and staff resources for intranet content and reference materials.
  • Prepare clear, accurate project documentation and reports for stakeholders.
  • Engage with stakeholders to influence and gain buy-in through collaborative relationships.

Salary Range: $94,992.79 - $100,358.57 pro-rata per annum

Position Type: Full Time Maximum Term to April 2027

Location: Council Chambers, 119 – 145 Spence Street, Cairns

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Human Resources Project Officer to join our team!

What You Will Do:

As a Human Resources Project Officer, you will contribute to the development, review, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, systems, resources, and practices to ensure compliance with legislative, industrial, and organisational requirements. You will also support the successful delivery of HR priorities and change initiatives through stakeholder engagement, communication, research, reporting, analysis, and project coordination activities.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business, human resources, project management or a related discipline; and/or demonstrated relevant experience in HR, project administration or business support.
  • Demonstrated ability to support project planning, coordination, monitoring and delivery in accordance with agreed project plans, schedules and timeframes.
  • Sound knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, relevant employment legislation, industrial instruments, HR policies, procedures and compliance requirements, and apply this knowledge in a practical workplace context.
  • Experience reviewing, interpreting, developing, updating and maintaining HR policies, procedures, forms, templates, employment documentation, intranet content and supporting resources.
  • High-level computer literacy and ability to prepare clear, accurate and written materials, including project documentation, reports, communications, correspondence and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate and gain stakeholder buy-in through effective communication, collaboration and relationship management.
