Job summary

Georges River Council is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to advise leaders on HR, employee relations and industrial relations across a diverse workforce. The role blends strategic partnering with hands-on delivery to drive high performance and a positive culture.

You will partner with leaders, influence decision-making, and support workforce planning, change initiatives and policy development within a progressive People & Culture team.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, IR or related field.
  • Experience as a senior HR or HRBP partner.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and industrial instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to provide expert HR, ER and IR advice across many matters.
  • Coach and support managers to build capability and effective people practices.
  • Manage performance, conduct, grievances and workplace investigations.
  • Guide on change, restructures, workforce planning and design activities.
  • Develop and improve People & Culture policies and compliance.
  • Monitor workforce trends, analyse data and deliver insights.
  • Lead projects to enhance culture, employee experience and performance.

The Role

As a Human Resources Business Partner, you will be a trusted advisor to people leaders across Council, providing contemporary human resources, employee relations and industrial relations support across a diverse range of workforce matters.

Balancing strategic business partnering with hands-on operational delivery, you will navigate complex employee matters, contribute to workforce planning and change initiatives, and drive practical solutions that support high performance, positive employee experience and a strong workplace culture.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with people leaders to provide expert HR, employee relations and industrial relations advice across a broad range of people matters.
  • Coach and support to build capability, confidence and effective people management practices.
  • Manage performance and conduct matters, grievances, complaints and workplace investigations.
  • Provide guidance and support on organisational change initiatives, restructures, workforce planning and organisational design activities.
  • Develop, review and improve People & Culture policies, procedures and frameworks to ensure best practice and legislative compliance.
  • Monitor workforce trends, analyse people data and provide insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and contribute to people-focused projects and initiatives that enhance workplace culture, employee experience and organisational performance.
About You

You are a trusted HR professional who enjoys partnering with leaders, navigating complex people matters and delivering practical solutions that support organisational success. You build strong relationships and have a people focused approach to workforce challenges and opportunities.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior Human Resources or Human Resources Business Partner role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, industrial instruments and contemporary HR practices.
  • Proven ability to partner with leaders, influence and advise with confidence and deliver positive people outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex workplace issues.
  • Well-developed organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
What We Offer
  • Permanent full-time – 70 hours per fortnight
  • Salary from $117,866.11 to $136,565.60 p.a., plus 12% superannuation (negotiated based on skills & experience)
  • Located in Hurstville CBD – 5 min walk from station
