Job description

Our client is a well-established, global manufacturing organisation with a strong Australian footprint and a reputation for quality, innovation and customer service. Experiencing significant growth, the business continues to invest in its people, operations and systems to support its expanding presence.

With an established safety culture and strong employee engagement, this is an opportunity to build on existing foundations while taking ownership of the HSE function nationally. You'll have the autonomy to influence decision making, work closely with senior leadership and implement practical improvements that make a genuine difference.

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the HSE Manager will act as the national subject matter expert across health, safety and environmental matters.
Operating in a standalone capacity, you'll provide guidance and support to operational leaders across manufacturing, warehousing and distribution sites nationally. The focus is on strengthening accountability, maintaining compliance and embedding practical HSE processes that support rather than hinder operations.

This is a highly visible role requiring someone who enjoys being on the factory floor, building relationships and influencing positive safety behaviours.

Location:

South eastern suburbs of Melbourne

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and continuously improve HSE systems, frameworks and practices across Australian operations.
  • Provide practical advice and coaching to operational leaders, strengthening safety ownership and accountability.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 environmental management systems and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee workers compensation, injury management, return-to-work programmes and occupational health monitoring.
  • Support contractor safety management, ensuring clear processes, responsibilities and compliance.
  • Monitor and report on HSE performance, including injury rates, environmental metrics and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate audits, training, consultation and compliance activities across national sites.
  • Partner with manufacturing and engineering teams to identify risks and implement practical safety solutions.
