Job summary

Blackbook Recruitment is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) leader to own HSE across projects, operations and field activities in Australia. You will drive a proactive safety culture, ensure compliance with legislation and corporate requirements, and support system development across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Proven HSE leadership experience within manufacturing, engineering, industrial services or similar settings.
• Strong working knowledge of Australian HSE legislation, regulations and standards.
• Experience working with ISO-based management systems (ISO 45001/14001/9001).
• Practical, influential leadership capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong incident investigation, risk management and audit capability.

Responsibilities

• Partner with operations and service teams to provide practical HSE coaching and guidance.
• Drive implementation and continuous improvement of integrated management systems.
• Lead site audits, inspections and compliance activities across multiple locations.
• Facilitate risk assessments, hazard identification and control implementation.
• Coordinate incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are embedded.
• Support injury management and return-to-work processes.
• Deliver HSE training, toolbox talks and awareness programs.
• Promote a positive safety culture aligned with regional and global standards.
• Monitor legislative changes and ensure compliance with HSE requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.

The Opportunity

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving a proactive, practical and collaborative safety culture across a diverse national operation. Working closely with project managers, operational leaders, service teams and frontline employees, you will provide hands-on HSE leadership, ensure compliance with legislative and corporate requirements, and support the ongoing development of systems, processes and performance across multiple sites and project environments.

Background

To be successful in this opportunity, you will have the following:

• Proven HSE leadership experience within manufacturing, engineering, industrial services, project environments or similarly complex operational settings.
• Strong working knowledge of Australian HSE legislation, regulations and standards.
• Experience working with ISO-based management systems, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
• A practical, visible leadership style with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
• Strong incident investigation, risk management and audit capability.
