Job summary

Aboriginal United Services (AUS) is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to provide practical health, safety and environmental support across our logistics, traffic management and AUS Employment Services labour hire operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will support safety systems, data analysis, field assurance, incident investigations and operational improvement activities.

This is a hands-on advisory role with Perth-based work and regular travel to regional WA

Qualifications

  • Five years of HSE advisory experience in high-risk operations such as logistics or road transport.
  • Current unrestricted Australian driver's licence and ability to travel.
  • Formal incident investigation training (ICAM or equivalent).
  • Auditor training or field/management system audit experience.
  • Working knowledge of WA WHS legislation and Chain of Responsibility concepts.
  • Knowledge of Heavy Vehicle National Law requirements in participating jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve HSE systems, records and registers.
  • Support HSE plans, reporting and corrective action management.
  • Administer incident, hazard, risk, audits, training, fatigue and telematics processes.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends and priorities.
  • Prepare dashboards and reports highlighting risks and actions.
  • Lead or support field audits and inspections.
  • Review compliance with WHS, road transport and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate prequalification, mobilisation and ongoing monitoring of contractors.

Job description

The Opportunity

Aboriginal United Services is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to provide practical health, safety and environmental support across our logistics, traffic management and AUS Employment Services labour hire operations.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will support safety systems, data analysis, field assurance, incident investigations, injury management and operational improvement activities.

This is a hands on advisory role that combines Perth based systems and reporting work with regular travel to depots, client workplaces and operational sites throughout regional WA and the Pilbara.

You will work independently while also supporting the Senior Assurance Advisor with audits, evidence gathering and corrective actions. Ownership of the compliance framework and assurance program remains with the Senior Assurance Advisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve HSE systems, procedures, registers and records
  • Support HSE plans, objectives, executive reporting and corrective action management
  • Administer electronic systems covering incidents, hazards, risks, audits, training, fatigue, drug and alcohol processes and IVMS or telematics
  • Analyse safety and compliance data to identify trends, recurring control failures and operational priorities
  • Prepare dashboards and reports highlighting risks, overdue actions and improvement opportunities
  • Conduct field audits, workplace inspections, task observations and critical control checks
  • Assess compliance with company, client, WHS, road transport, dangerous goods and environmental requirements
  • Review Chain of Responsibility controls covering mass, dimension, loading, load restraint and transport records
  • Review fatigue, speed, fitness for work, journey planning, vehicle safety, maintenance, telematics, permits and WAHVA controls
  • Lead or support incident investigations using ICAM or an equivalent approved methodology
  • Facilitate operational risk assessments and management of change reviews
  • Support injury management, suitable duties and Return to Work programs
  • Provide practical HSE advice, coaching, toolbox content, inductions, safety alerts and targeted training
  • Complete host workplace risk reviews for labour-hire placements and coordinate shared WHS responsibilities with host organisations
  • Conduct and document Verification of Competency assessments for drivers and operational employees within your authorised competency
  • Support contractor and subcontractor prequalification, mobilisation, induction and ongoing monitoring
  • Escalate immediate, unacceptable or unresolved risks to operational management and the COO
About You

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • At least five years of HSE advisory experience within logistics, road transport, heavy vehicles, warehousing, traffic management or similar high risk operations
  • A current unrestricted Australian driver's licence and the ability to travel independently
  • Formal incident investigation training such as ICAM or an equivalent methodology
  • Auditor training or demonstrated experience conducting field and management system audits
  • Working knowledge of WA WHS legislation, Chain of Responsibility, Main Roads WA requirements and WAHVA
  • Knowledge of Heavy Vehicle National Law requirements for operations within participating jurisdictions
  • Experience reviewing fatigue, vehicle safety, load restraint, dangerous goods and transport compliance controls
  • Experience analysing incident, audit, fatigue, telematics and compliance data
  • Strong written communication, reporting and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in safety management systems, Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
  • The confidence to provide objective advice and constructively challenge unsafe or non compliant decisions
  • The ability to organise your own workload, work independently and follow actions through to completion

A Diploma or higher qualification in WHS, OHS or a related discipline will be well regarded.

A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Lead Auditor qualification, Power BI experience, Return to Work training and knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 or ISO 9001 will also be highly regarded.

Labour hire safety, host workplace risk assessment, worker consultation and injury management experience would be advantageous.
