Job summary

OCU Group is seeking an HSE Advisor to support construction and energy projects in Queensland. You will partner with site leaders to implement safety plans, run inductions and drive risk controls on site.

The role focuses on safety, SWMS reviews, incident investigations and environmental controls, with field-based work Monday through Saturday. Previous solar/energy infrastructure exposure is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Experience in an HSE advisory role on construction, civil, mining, energy or infrastructure sites.
• Understanding of WHS legislation and high-risk construction work requirements.
• Ability to deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety training to frontline teams.

Responsibilities

• Partner with site managers, supervisors and crews to plan and deliver piling, drilling, batching and installation work safely.
• Lead site inspections, audits and observations, turning findings into actionable improvements.
• Review and update SWMS, JSAs and risk assessments to reflect actual work practices.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and drive corrective actions to close out.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety training for frontline teams.
• Monitor environmental controls on site including waste management, dust, erosion and spill control.
• Maintain accurate HSE records and reporting to support the management system.
• Champion a positive safety culture by coaching site leaders and recognizing good practice.

About the opportunity

Your first project will be the Fraser Coast Hybrid Solar and BESS Project, near Teebar and Brooweena, about 50 kilometres southwest of Maryborough. Set across 555 hectares, it combines around 600,000 solar panels (330 MW) with a 180 MW / 360 MWh battery energy storage system and a 275 kV grid connection. It’s one of the most significant renewable energy builds in Queensland, and beyond it we have a strong pipeline of work across Queensland and other states.

What you’ll do

• Partner with site managers, supervisors and crews to plan and deliver piling, drilling, batching and installation work safely.
• Lead site inspections, audits and observations, turning findings into clear, practical actions.
• Review and improve SWMS, JSAs and risk assessments so they reflect how work is actually done.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and drive corrective actions through to close-out.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety training that land with frontline teams.
• Monitor environmental controls on site, including waste segregation and recycling, dust, erosion and spill management
• Maintain accurate HSE records and reporting, supporting our management system and client requirements
• Champion a positive safety culture by coaching site leaders and recognising good practice

What you’ll bring to the team

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety
• Experience in an HSE advisory role on construction, civil, mining, energy or infrastructure sites
• Working knowledge of WHS legislation, high risk construction work and SWMS
• Confidence to communicate with crews and leaders alike, and to challenge unsafe practice constructively
• Current White Card and full Australian driver’s licence
• Happy to work in a field-based role, Monday to Saturday
• It would be great if you’ve worked on solar farm, BESS, piling or heavy plant projects
• Bonus if you have formal incident investigation training such as ICAM
