Job summary

HousingFirst is an award-winning not-for-profit leading in community housing design, financing, building and management. Housing Officers provide professional tenancy management across a portfolio, in line with policies and legislative frameworks, to support positive housing outcomes.

The ideal candidate has a relevant qualification or housing sector experience, understanding of social housing and homelessness, tenancy management across sectors, and a compassionate approach to diverse clients

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification or housing/real estate sector experience.
• Understanding of social housing, housing insecurity and homelessness.
• Tenancy management experience in private, public or community housing.
• Experience working compassionately with diverse clients, including people with complex needs.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Build strong renter relationships to support successful tenancies and community cohesion
• Advise customers on housing options and assess their needs
• Maintain effective partnerships with community housing groups, agencies and government
• Identify tenancy risks early and refer renters to appropriate support services
• Process eligible customers for appropriate registration lists
• Manage complaints efficiently in line with HousingFirst policy and procedure
• Work with colleagues to maintain safe, clean and cohesive communities
• Maintain accurate service delivery records and file notes
• Explain relevant policies and procedures clearly and accurately
• Support Client Services rostered duties, including responding to tenancy enquiries

The Position

Housing Officers provide professional and responsive tenancy management services in accordance with HousingFirst policies and procedures and relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks, while upholding and strengthening the integrity of HousingFirst’s vision, mission, values and strategic direction.

Housing Officers are responsible for effectively managing a portfolio of properties and tenancies to support positive housing outcomes.

As our ideal candidate you will have:

• Relevant tertiary qualification or housing/real estate sector experience
• Practical knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (Vic) and VCAT
• Understanding of social housing, housing insecurity and homelessness
• Tenancy management experience in private, public or community housing
• Experience working compassionately with diverse clients, including people with complex needs
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
• Commitment to HousingFirst’s mission and values in all work and relationships
• To be considered for this opportunity you must have full Australian working rights, A Victorian Drivers License, A National Police Check and a Victorian Working with Children’s Check will also be required for the preferred candidate.
