Job summary

Green By Nature in Canberra is seeking a dedicated horticulturist to join a full-time team maintaining premium landscapes, including university and national site locations. The role focuses on hands-on care, safety, and collaborative execution of daily tasks across multiple sites.

You will work with skilled staff, perform routine maintenance, tackle seasonal planting, and support events while upholding high presentation standards and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Experience in horticultural maintenance and operating field tools.
• Strong communication and ability to prioritise workflows.
• Willingness to obtain White Card and Working with Children's Check.

Responsibilities

• Perform mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, mulching, and fertilising.
• Maintain ornamental gardens, hedges, lawns, and feature planting areas.
• Operate and maintain horticultural tools, machinery, and irrigation systems safely.
• Assist in seasonal planting, turf renovation, and landscape improvement projects.
• Identify and treat plant pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Collaborate with grounds and facilities staff for events.

Job description

This full-time position is based across two central Canberra sites, UNSW Reid Campus and the National War Graves, contributing to a place of national significance.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of horticultural maintenance staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
• Perform regular horticultural maintenance including mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, mulching, and fertilising
• Maintain ornamental gardens, hedges, lawns, and feature planting areas to premium presentation standard
• Operate and maintain horticultural tools, machinery, and irrigation systems safely and effectively
• Assist in seasonal planting, turf renovation, and landscape improvement projects
• Identify and treat plant pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies
• Work collaboratively with grounds and facilities staff to support school events and operational needs

About You

Ideally, you have a Certificate III in Horticulture or Parks & Gardens and/or excellent working knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the field, such as hedgers, whipper snippers, blowers, hand tools and some petrol operated equipment.

You are willing to obtain a White Card and Working with Children's check if you do not already have them.

You pride yourself on your well-honed communication skills.

Most importantly you have proven ability to effectively prioritise workflows, impart knowledge to others and be a mature and reliable team player.
