Job summary

Arrowfield Stud in Scone NSW is seeking an experienced Horse Trainer/Breeding Assistant Foaling Manager to join our team full-time. You will train broodmares and young stock, monitor mares in foal, assist with foaling, and support ultrasound/reproduction work.

The role requires a Certificate III or equivalent (or 3+ years in horse training), at least two years with thoroughbreds, strong communication, and a commitment to safety. Salary ranges AU$75,000–AU$82,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Certificate III or equivalent qualification, or 3+ years’ professional full-time experience educating and training horses.
• Minimum of two years’ equivalent full-time experience handling and educating thoroughbred horses.
• Knowledge of horse training methods for thoroughbreds, including stallions, sales or breeding.
• Good oral and written communication to take instruction and prepare basic reports.
• Knowledge of safe operation of equipment and PPE; awareness of health and safety obligations.

Responsibilities

• Train broodmares and young stock.

• Provide foaling-related pre- and post-natal care for mares and foals.
• Monitor mare ovulation and pregnancy.

Horse Trainer / Breeding - Assistant Foaling Manager

Arrowfield Stud and Training Centre are currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our team for the role of role Horse Trainer/Breeding - Assistant Foaling Manager.

Position is full-time and available in Scone NSW.

Duties will include:

• Training broodmares and young stock
• Monitoring and handling of mares imminently in foal
• Foaling, including pre- and post-natal care of broodmares and foals
• Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
• Early education of foals and young stock
• Educating and preparing weanlings and yearlings for sale
• Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses and staff supervision where required
• Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals

Essential Criteria

• A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years’ professional full-time experience educating and training horses
• A minimum of two years’ equivalent full-time experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
• Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including stallions, sales or breeding
• Proven ability to train and educate young horses
• Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
• Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses

This is a full-time position, and the suitable applicant will need to commit to a minimum of two-years employment.

The salary will be above award – in the range of $75,000 to $82,000 per annum depending upon the level of responsibility.
