Job summary

Coldstream Park Warmblood Stud in Coldstream VIC seeks an experienced Horse Stud Manager to oversee all aspects of the stud operations. The role involves foaling supervision, assisting vets during breeding, staff leadership, and ensuring high standards of mare and foal care on a busy Warmblood property.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor degree in Horse Stud Management or at least 2 years of proven stud experience, with strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Horse Stud Management or 2+ years experience on a horse stud.
• Minimum 2 years professional experience in a similar role.
• Experience with breeding Warmbloods and performance horses.
• Ability to supervise staff and coordinate with vets and farriers.

Responsibilities

• Oversee foaling season: monitoring mares, foal watch, after-hours assistance as needed.
• Assist vets with mare breeding to chilled or frozen semen, train maiden mares to stand in breeding crush safely.
• Supervise daily horse care: feeding, worming, vaccinations, treatment, injury care, rugging, and nutrition.
• Wean foals and conduct ground work with young stock; lead training and handling.

Horse Stud ManagerYear round Position available for a person very experienced with all aspects of Horse stud work to a long established Warmblood and Performance Horse Stud.Duties and Responsibilities will include the following

• During foaling time Foaling down of mares wearing monitors and or being watched on foal watch and being on call to assist after hours with foaling down as needed and with pre and post natal care of mare and newborn foal.


• Assist Vets with setting up mares to breed to chilled and frozen semen. *Training maiden mares to stand quietly in horse breeding crush safely for the Vet.


• Working with less experienced staff to help with daily care and supervision of horses , including breeding, feeding, farrier, worming, vacinations, doing Vet prescribed treatments and medication, care of injury, appropriate rugging and nutritional program for each horse as seasons and needs change.


• Weaning foals.


• Doing ground work education with young foals teaching them to lead , pick up feet, wear rugs, further in hand age appropriate work with weanlings and pre breakers.


• Property maintenance year round including fence and shelter repairs, fallen tree removal, Harrowing pasture, mowing driveway and lawns , Puting out round bales with tractor.


• Ensuring a fun productive safe and healthy work place.


• Calling out Vet to a health emergency colic or injury needing Vet assistance.


• A bachelor degree in Horse Stud Management or in absence of a Uni degree must have documented minimum of 2 years professional experience working on a horse stud in this role like this one advertised.

• Provide high level of horse care, adequate monitoring for injury and illness, tailored feeding and handling specific to pregnant mares and foals and young horses.


• Proven ability to handle foals and wean them, teach them to lead, pick up feet for farrier to trim them, wear rugs, load onto a float or truck safely.


• Have experience managing other staff to create a functioning happy safe team and breeding operation.


• Bring a sound knowledge of the safe operation of all Stud farm equipment, Utes, Buggys, Tractors, Horse crush, Mowers and PPE to be used with all equipment.


• Ensure safe handling and leading of all horses is put into practice at the workplace by all workers.


• Excellent communication skills to delegate work to other staff, communicate with Vets, Farriers, Horse Trainers, Trades attending any farm or barn maintenance and be able to keep records for each horse updated and plan a weekly schedule of tasks and appointments and oversea all duties of other staff have been completed properly and in timely manner.

Fully furnished private 1 bedroom plus study in cottage on the farm.
