ROC Communications is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Driller / Tracker to lead or assist HDD crews on major telecoms and civil projects across Victoria and NSW. Based in our Melbourne facility in Laverton North, you will deliver safe, efficient HDD works, with opportunities to step into Team Leader roles as you grow with the business.

Operate Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch rigs, track bore alignment, perform service locating, and read DBYD plans.

Qualifications

• Proven HDD experience in telecoms or civil construction.
• Hands-on operation of Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch rigs.
• Experience tracking bore alignment and service locating.
• Ability to read DBYD plans and construction drawings.
• Reliable, safety-focused and able to work in fast-paced environments.

Horizontal Directional Driller / Tracker

ROC Communications is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Driller / Tracker to lead or assist HDD crews in delivering major telecommunications and civil infrastructure projects across Victoria and NSW.

Based from our new Melbourne facility in Laverton North, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient delivery of HDD works across metro and regional projects. Depending on your experience, there is an opportunity to step into a Team Leader position immediately or develop into the role as you grow with the business.

Operate Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch drilling rigs

Track drill heads and maintain accurate bore alignment

Undertake service locating and accurately interpret underground asset information

Read and interpret construction drawings and Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) plans

Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications, quality standards, and timelines

Complete daily reporting and site documentation

Work across metro and regional sites and travel as required

Work varied shifts, including night works with notice

Lead, mentor and coordinate directional drilling crews on telecommunications and civil infrastructure projects

Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Ensure equipment maintenance and readiness

Liaise with Supervisors, Project Managers and clients

About you

Proven experience in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) within telecommunications and/or civil construction, ideally on carrier / Tier 1 infrastructure projects

Hands‑on experience operating Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch drilling rigs

Demonstrated tracking experience and ability to maintain accurate bore alignment

Experience undertaking service locating and interpreting underground asset information

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) plans

Reliable, self‑motivated and capable of working effectively in a fast‑paced environment

Strong focus on safety, quality, and accountability

For Team Leader applicants, demonstrated experience leading and mentoring crews in the field

HR or MR Truck Licence (HC highly regarded)

White Card (Construction Induction)
