Job summary

Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney is seeking a Technician to provide high-quality histology and blood processing services for researchers and external collaborators.

The role reports to the Histopathology & Biospecimen Manager and includes responsibilities such as blood processing, tissue processing, embedding, staining, and immunohistochemistry. The position is a 2-year contract with potential extension, offering a competitive salary and salary packaging benefits.

Qualifications

• TAFE or university degree in science, applied science, health or related discipline.
• Understanding of good laboratory practice guidelines.
• Excellent computer and communication skills.
• Strong commitment to quality and attention to detail.
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Ability to work in a team/collaborative environment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Process blood samples from biobanks and clinical trials.
• Perform general histology including tissue processing, embedding and staining.
• Label and prepare samples meticulously.
• Aliquot and snap freeze blood samples.
• Maintain lab equipment and adhere to study protocols.
• Contribute to SOPs and assist with research projects.
