Job summary

Transdev Australasia is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic at Randwick Depot in Sydney. You will service, repair and troubleshoot buses to keep them safe, reliable and available for daily operations, with opportunities to work on EV technology and future mobility projects.

You will collaborate with a skilled team, mentor apprentices, and benefit from an attractive remuneration package, shift allowances, overtime, and a staff travel card.

Qualifications

• Current NSW MVTC Motor Mechanic Trade Certificate (essential).
• TAFE Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology (essential).
• Current HR Driver Licence, or ability to obtain one.
• Strong computer literacy; accurate maintenance records.
• Experience supervising apprentices/trade assistants.
• Experience using diagnostic scan tools (desirable); bus ops experience (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Repair, service and maintain buses per standards.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle faults.

Your impact

As a Mechanic at our Randwick Depot, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability and performance of our bus fleet. Working within a supportive and skilled maintenance team, you'll be responsible for servicing, repairing and troubleshooting our vehicles to ensure they remain roadworthy and available to serve our customers. You'll also have the opportunity to be part of our transition to electric vehicle technology and help shape the future of sustainable public transport. This is a full-time position based at our Randwick Depot, offering an attractive hourly rate of $46.7505 per hour (inclusive of industry allowance) + shift allowances, overtime opportunities, a monthly RDO and free public transport across Sydney.

What you will do

• Repair, service and maintain buses in accordance with regulatory and fleet standards.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle faults and defects.
• Conduct road tests following repairs and maintenance activities.
• Attend vehicle breakdowns both on-site and in the field when required.
• Complete maintenance records accurately using computer-based systems.
• Support and assist in the training and development of apprentices and trade assistants.
• Work collaboratively within a safety-focused team environment.
• Contribute to fleet reliability and operational performance through proactive maintenance practices.

What you bring

Experience & Qualifications

• Current NSW MVTC Motor Mechanic Trade Certificate (essential).
• TAFE Certificate III in Heavy Vehicle Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (essential).
• Current HR Driver Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
• Strong computer literacy and ability to maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Experience supervising or mentoring apprentices and trade assistants.
• Experience using diagnostic scan tools (desirable).
• Experience in bus maintenance and public transport operations (desirable).

• Total remuneration package $103,464.48 (inclusive of superannuation)
• Additional payments for shift allowance and overtime
• EBA pay increases scheduled for January 2027 and January 2028.

Hours of work

Following an initial training period on day shift, you will move to a fortnightly rotating roster that includes weekend work.

Day Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm

Mid Shift: 10:30am - 7:00pm (15% shift allowance applies for the entire shift)

Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm - 11:00pm (15% shift allowance applies for the entire shift)
