Job summary

Narrandera Shire Council is seeking a qualified Motor Mechanic for the Works Depot at Barellan Road, Narrandera. This full-time 38-hour-week role operates on a 9-day fortnight, with both workshop and mobile truck work, and all tools provided to maintain a safe, serviceable fleet.

The ideal candidate will have diesel and petrol engine experience, relevant trade qualifications, a valid driver’s licence, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and WHS.

Qualifications

• Experience in diesel and petrol engines.
• Motor Mechanic / Repairer Trade Certificate or equivalent (or working towards for apprentices).
• A current Class C driving licence; HR licence desirable.
• Ability to upgrade qualifications or licences to undertake all workshop tasks.
• Demonstrated high-level mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Positive attitude towards ongoing improvement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair Council’s heavy vehicles, plant and equipment to good working order per policies and manufacturer specifications.
• Accurately build and update Council’s Asset Database Register.
• Coordinate daily workshop activities and WHS compliance to deliver the works program.
• Provide timely reports to the Plant and Workshop Manager on progress.
• Contribute to the Workshop team outcomes through teamwork.
• Comply with WHS requirements in Plant and Work Areas.

About the role

This full-time position is based at the Narrandera Shire Council Works Depot, Barellan Road Narrandera. You will work a 38hr week, 9 day fortnight.

This position is required to conduct mechanical duties for heavy vehicles and plant to ensure Narrandera Shire Council plant and fleet is maintained to a safe and serviceable condition.

Work out of a well-equipped workshop and mobile work truck with all tools of the trade provided.

Duties

• Heavy Vehicles, Plant and Equipment -by ensuring all vehicles, plant and equipment owned by Council is repaired and maintained in good working order in accordance with Council’s policies and the manufacturer’s specifications.


• Administration - by accurately building Council’s Asset Database Register in accordance with Council’s policies and procedures.


• Co-ordinate Daily Activities -by co-ordinating daily activities undertaken by himself to achieve the expected objectives and outcomes determined by Council, including WHS compliance, customer service and works program delivery.


• Communication - by providing timely reports to the Plant and Workshop Manager on progress of vehicle, plant/equipment maintenance and repairs.


• Teamwork - by productively contributing to the outcomes of the Workshop team.


• Work Health and Safety - by understanding the WHS aspect of Plant and Work Areas

What you will need:

• Experience in both diesel and petrol engines


• Motor Mechanic / Repairers Trade Certificate or Equivalent (or working towards for apprentices)


• A current Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence (Class C minimum) and be willing to upgrade on request with HR Licence desirable


• An ability to upgrade to any necessary qualification or licence to undertake all workshop tasks


• Demonstrated high level mechanical diagnostic and troubleshooting skills


• A positive attitude towards ongoing improvement
