Job summary

Sunripe is a family-owned agribusiness and Australia’s largest producer of field-grown snacking tomatoes. The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic will service and repair the Sunripe heavy vehicle fleet, including prime movers, heavy rigid trucks, semi-trailers and refrigerated trailers to keep freight moving between farms, packing facility and market.

You will diagnose faults with diagnostic tools, prepare vehicles for inspections, attend breakdowns and maintain a safe, compliant workshop with a focus on OHS

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Heavy Commercial Vehicle or Diesel Mechanic.
• Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults using diagnostic tools and manufacturer procedures.
• Prepare vehicles for heavy vehicle inspections and keep inspection and compliance records up to date.
• Attend heavy vehicle breakdowns promptly to keep freight on schedule.
• Carry out brake, suspension, axle and coupling repairs to roadworthy standard.
• Maintain a service schedule for your fleet so machinery and vehicles are always efficient, safe and productive.

Summary

The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for the servicing, maintenance and repair of the Sunripe heavy vehicle fleet, including prime movers, heavy rigid trucks, semi-trailers and refrigerated trailers. The role keeps freight moving safely and reliably between the farms, packing facility and market.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults using diagnostic tools and manufacturer procedures.
• Prepare vehicles for heavy vehicle inspections and keep inspection and compliance records up to date.
• Attend heavy vehicle breakdowns promptly to keep freight on schedule.
• Carry out brake, suspension, axle and coupling repairs to roadworthy standard.
• Maintain a service schedule for your fleet so machinery and vehicles are always efficient, safe and productive.
• Record repairs carried out, parts used and service history (basic computer skills: Word, email, recording repairs).
• Source relevant parts, oils and lubricants.
• Liaise with preferred specialists and contractors when work is outsourced, give them the access and information they need, and record third-party work in the service history.
• Test equipment after repair and before returning it to service.
• Keep the workshop and workspace clean and tidy.
• Ensure OHS is always a priority, and Food Safety Standards are followed.
• Trade qualification as a Heavy Commercial Vehicle or Diesel Mechanic (e.g. Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology), or relevant qualification.
