Job summary

Transport for NSW seeks a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic for Broken Hill to undertake maintenance and repairs on a range of heavy vehicles and plant. You will work autonomously yet as part of a safety-focused team, with opportunities to supervise apprentices and share knowledge across the depot.

You must have an Automotive Vehicle Mechanic Qualification with exposure to heavy vehicles and plant, plus White Card and NSW MR/HR license.

  • High exposure to Heavy Vehicles and plant.
  • Current NSW MR/HR licence or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake maintenance and repairs on heavy vehicles and plant equipment.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, repair, commissioning and modification tasks.
  • Potentially supervise apprentices or staff across the area.
  • Attend after hour callouts and travel as required.

In this role, you'll:

Undertake maintenance and repairs on a range of plant items, vehicles, and mechanical equipment. You’ll have no hesitation taking on duties involving installation, maintenance, repairs, commissioning, and modification of complex machinery driven by hydraulic/pneumatic principles.
We provide an inclusive and collaborative space to develop your skills and share your knowledge across the team. Therefore, there may be occasions where you may be required to supervise apprentices or staff assisting other mechanics across the area.
Mechanical Tradesperson Grade 1-3 is multi-graded. The starting grade is assigned based on demonstrated skills and experience. Progression through the grades is automatic provided the employee can demonstrate they have the skills and capabilities required for the next grade.
You may also be required to work outside normal working hours. You must be able attend after hour callouts as well as be prepared to travel throughout the state and work at locations away from the base station.
This is an ongoing full-time role located at Broken Hill.
TfNSW take the WH&S and the management of fatigue of our employees seriously therefore to be eligible for this role it is a requirement that you must reside within 75 kms driving distance from the Broken Hill workshop.

You are an ambitious, collaborative, and qualified mechanical tradesperson who enjoys working autonomously.
You have good problem-solving skills and fault diagnosis skills and you’re proactive in dealing with customer complaints by being effective and efficient in your approach.
With a strong focus on safety, you can identify, communicate and report environmental all hazards in the workplace and understand the quality requirements of the tasks to be performed within this position.
It is essential that you have an Automotive Vehicle Mechanic Qualification with high exposure & experience on Heavy Vehicles & plant.
You hold a current Construction Industry White Card and a current unrestricted NSW Motor Vehicle driver’s licence.
A Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver’s Licence would be viewed favourably.
You must have a willingness to undertake any legislated or internal licensing or ticketing requirements as directed.
Experience in welding and metal fabrication will be highly desirable.
The wage range for this position is $1,519.40 to $1,755.20 per week plus superannuation and allowances dependant on qualifications & experience.
This role also includes 5 weeks annual leave and a 9-day fortnight.

An iPad, Work Phone & Basic Toolbox are also supplied. Also, on offer are various allowances relevant to the position.
