Job summary

Outback Stores is seeking a Health Promotion Coordinator to join the Health & Nutrition team in Darwin. The role focuses on culturally appropriate health promotion activities, tobacco reduction, healthy lifestyles, and community wellbeing in remote Indigenous communities.

You will work closely with Indigenous communities and stakeholders to coordinate initiatives, build relationships, and support programs that improve health outcomes. Travel to remote communities will be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years' experience in health promotion or related role.
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous communities and diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate community health programs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver health promotion and tobacco reduction initiatives in remote Indigenous communities.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate community health promotion plans.
  • Build partnerships with communities and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate health promotion projects within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Prepare reports and communications for various audiences.
  • Support adherence to tobacco policies and improve health practices.

Job Description

We are looking for a passionate Health Promotion Coordinator to join our Health & Nutrition team based at our Darwin Support Office.

This role is focused on delivering culturally appropriate health promotion activities, with a key focus on tobacco reduction, healthy lifestyles and community wellbeing.

Working closely with Indigenous communities and key stakeholders, you will coordinate health promotion initiatives, build strong community relationships and support programs that contribute to improved health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver health promotion and tobacco reduction initiatives in remote Indigenous communities.
  • Conduct and use research and community insights to identify health priorities and support positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Support the development, implementation and evaluation of community health promotion plans.
  • Build strong, respectful partnerships with communities and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate health promotion projects within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Review and interpret data to identify trends and support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, resources and communications for a range of audiences.
  • Support compliance with tobacco-related policies and contribute to the ongoing improvement of policies, procedures and health promotion practices.
  • Respect cultural diversity, Indigenous knowledge and traditional health practices.
Desired Skills and Experience
What We’re Looking For
  • At least two years’ experience in health promotion, community engagement or a related role.
  • Strong communication, community engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Proven experience building partnerships and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working effectively with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • High cultural intelligence and an understanding of Australian Indigenous cultures and the social determinants of health.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisation, time management and reporting skills.
  • Strong computer literacy with the ability to gather, interpret and report data.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities.
  • Working with Children Check and National Police Certificate, or the ability to obtain them.
  • Tertiary qualification in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Development, Project Management or another relevant discipline.
  • Relevant health experience and knowledge of contemporary health promotion practices.
  • Understanding of health issues affecting remote communities in Australia.
  • Experience planning, delivering and evaluating health promotion programs.
  • Experience delivering health promotion initiatives, including training, resources and communications.
  • Previous experience working with Indigenous communities and an understanding of Indigenous culture.
  • Understanding of health promotion theory and evidence, including needs analysis, project planning and evaluation.
  • Experience in health, community development, food retail or a related environment.
