Job summary

SoundBay Pty Ltd in Australia seeks a strategic Head of Retail to lead our national store network, drive profitability and build a high-performing retail culture.

Based in Melbourne or Sydney, you will set the national retail strategy, coach Store Managers, manage budgets, plan workforce, and partner with Finance, Marketing, Online, Purchasing, Logistics and IT to deliver growth.

Qualifications

• Proven senior or multi-site retail leadership experience across a geographically dispersed network.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with accountability for profitability and budgets.
• Ability to lead, develop and hold leaders accountable.
• Strategic thinker with expertise in workforce planning and performance management.
• Experience in customer experience and specialty retail operations.

• Lead network development including new stores and acquisitions.
• Provide the Leadership Crew with insight, recommendations and accountability.

Job description

SoundBay Pty Ltd is an Australian music retail and distribution group, best known for brands including Mannys Music, Store DJ, Derringers Music and Optimum Percussion. With a national retail network across Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, SoundBay is continuing to grow across the Australian music and audio market.

We are looking for an experienced retail leader to join our Leadership team as Head of Retail, with national responsibility for the performance, growth and development of our retail network.

The role is preferably based in Melbourne or Sydney.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who combines strong commercial and financial capability with a genuine ability to lead leaders, improve performance and build a high-performing retail culture. You'll have significant influence across the business, working closely with Store Managers and our Finance, People & Culture, Marketing, Online Orders, Purchasing, Logistics, Inventory and IT teams.

Regular Duties Include:

Own and execute the national retail strategy, driving commercial performance, profitability and sustainable growth

Lead and hold Store Managers accountable for performance, leadership, people capability and operating standards

Own retail workforce planning and labour productivity, ensuring staffing and rostering align with customer demand and budgets

Drive strong inventory integrity, loss prevention and commercial discipline across pricing, discounting and margin

Own customer experience, merchandising and store presentation standards across the retail network

Build strong cross-functional partnerships across Finance, People & Culture, Marketing, Online Team, Purchasing, Logistics and IT

Lead retail network development, including new stores, network changes and future acquisitions

Provide the Leadership Crew with clear insight, recommendations and accountability for retail performance

About You

We're looking for a commercially minded senior retail leader who brings:

Proven senior or multi-site retail leadership experience across a geographically dispersed network

Strong commercial and financial acumen, with accountability for profitability, budgets, margin and labour productivity

Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and hold experienced leaders accountable

Strong capability in strategy, workforce planning, performance management and leadership development

A strong understanding of customer experience and specialty retail operations

Excellent analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills

Demonstrated ability to lead change and deliver measurable results

Ability and willingness to undertake significant interstate travel and maintain a regular presence across the national store network

Experience in music, musical instruments, pro audio or specialty retail is highly regarded
