Job description

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Head of Finance to join imei and play a key leadership role in a growing Australian technology and telecommunications business.

This is a hands-on senior Finance role for someone who combines strong technical accounting capability with commercial thinking, enjoys partnering with leaders across a business, and is passionate about continuously improving the way Finance operates.

You’ll take ownership of imei’s financial operations while helping us strengthen our financial systems, reporting and processes, including looking at how automation and AI can be used to create a smarter, more efficient Finance function.

Benefits and perks

Free café-quality coffee, monthly free lunches and a great social scene.

Career development and progression opportunities within an established and growing Australian business.

Company bonus opportunity when the business achieves its annual financial goals.

Great Northern Beaches location close to beaches including Manly and Dee Why, as well as restaurants and cafés.

Free onsite parking.

Anytime Fitness conveniently located on the ground level.

Lots of free healthy snacks and fresh fruit.

A collaborative environment where you’ll work closely with senior leaders and have the opportunity to influence how the business operates and grows.

About the role

As our Head of Finance, you will be responsible for the integrity and effectiveness of imei’s financial operations and provide senior leaders with timely, reliable financial information and commercial insight to support sound decision-making, profitability, cash flow and sustainable growth.

You’ll take ownership of areas including:

Leading the day-to-day financial operations of the business.

Managing daily cash flow and short-term cash forecasting.

Overseeing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and payroll.

Preparing monthly management accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet and cash-flow reporting.

Leading annual budgeting, forecasting and analysis of actual performance against budget and forecast.

Producing clear and useful financial reporting for senior management and the Board.

Managing taxation, statutory reporting and financial compliance requirements.

Coordinating annual financial statements and supporting external accountants, advisers and auditors.

Maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records.

Developing meaningful financial KPIs and translating financial information into practical commercial insights.

Supporting leaders with financial analysis, expenditure management and commercial decision-making.

Constructively challenging expenditure and maintaining strong financial discipline across the business.

Leading, coaching and developing the Finance team.

Driving continuous improvement across Finance processes, systems, controls and reporting.

Identifying opportunities to use automation, AI and emerging technologies to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and accuracy of the Finance function.

Building on our existing financial systems and looking for opportunities to streamline and enhance financial processes, reporting and analysis through the appropriate use of AI and automation.

This is an opportunity to not only lead the Finance function, but to help shape how it evolves as the business continues to grow.

About you

You’ll be an experienced Finance leader who can comfortably move between detailed financial operations and broader commercial conversations with senior leaders.

You’re practical, hands-on and analytical, but you also understand that a great Finance function should help the business make better and faster decisions, not simply report the numbers.

Experience, attributes & competencies we’re looking for:

CPA, CA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.

Substantial financial and management accounting experience within a commercial environment.

Strong experience across budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and performance analysis.

Sound knowledge of Australian taxation, statutory reporting and financial compliance requirements.

Experience preparing management accounts and Board-level financial reporting.

Experience coordinating annual financial statements and working with external accountants, auditors or advisers.

Demonstrated experience leading, supporting and developing a Finance team.

Strong technical accounting capability combined with sound commercial judgement.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and stakeholder-management capability, including the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance leaders.

A practical, hands-on and solutions-focused approach.

Confidence to constructively challenge expenditure, assumptions and decisions where appropriate.

A strong continuous-improvement mindset and an interest in using technology, automation and AI to create smarter and more efficient financial operations.

Working knowledge of NetSuite would be beneficial.

High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, complete and timely financial information.

Calm, organised and able to manage competing priorities, deadlines and sensitive information with discretion.

If you’re an experienced Finance leader who enjoys getting into the detail while also contributing to the bigger commercial picture, we’d love to hear from you.
