Job summary

Pathfinder Recruitment is seeking a Head of Engineering in Sydney to lead the development function at a growing digital agency. You will guide a 12-person team across development, mobile, QA and support, reporting to the Directors and owning the technical function.

You will shape engineering standards, CI/CD, security and deployment practices, mentor engineers, manage resource planning, and present to clients and executives. Experience with C#, .NET, Azure and CMS/DXP projects is essential.

Our client is an independent digital agency that makes digital simple. For 17 years, they have been building high-performing websites, eCommerce platforms, mobile applications and complex integrations for leading organisations.

We're looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead the development function and join our leadership team.

You'll lead a team of 12 across development, mobile, QA and support, reporting directly to the Directors. You'll own the technical function — the people, processes, engineering standards and the quality of everything built.

What you’ll do

• Lead, mentor and develop the development team, including hiring and performance management.

• Own resource planning and allocation across multiple projects.

• Set and enforce the engineering standards and development lifecycle.

• Oversee technical quality, security, testing, accessibility and deployment practices.

• Work with the Principal Engineer to evolve the approach to AI-assisted and spec-driven development.

• Provide technical leadership on projects, including scoping, estimating, workshops and client presentations.

• Be the escalation point for technical, deployment and production issues.

• Help shape the future technology strategy of the agency.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced technology leader with:

• Proven experience managing and developing engineering teams.

• Strong C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core and Azure experience.

• Experience delivering enterprise-scale .NET CMS/DXP projects.

• A strong understanding of modern engineering practices, CI/CD, testing and security.

• Experience owning development processes and technical delivery in an agency or similar environment.

• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work directly with clients and senior stakeholders.

• The judgement to balance technical quality with real-world delivery pressures.

Microsoft certification such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or DevOps Engineer Expert is expected within your first year.

Experience with Kentico, Umbraco, AI-assisted development, search, identity, accessibility or infrastructure as code would be a bonus.
