Job summary

Macquarie University is seeking a strategic Head of Employee Relations to provide oversight of employee and industrial relations across the University Group, including MQ Hospital and related entities. You will guide complex workplace matters, enterprise agreement work and union relations, shaping fair people practices and a collaborative culture.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will lead a team of ER professionals, coach staff, and partner across HR to advance strategic objectives

Qualifications

• HR, IR or legal qualifications and related experience.
• Deep understanding of the employment-related legal framework and principles.
• Experience overseeing complex case management, dispute resolution and change management processes.
• Experience contributing to enterprise agreement bargaining and implementation across varied industrial contexts.
• Proven capability in mentoring and developing team members and building organisational capability.
• Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with unions and a broad range of stakeholders.
• Strong experience in and understanding of risk management practices.
• Experience working within the Higher Education context would be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Oversee high-quality employee relations advice and services to key stakeholders, including complex cases and union matters.
• Guide a whole-of-HR approach to managing conduct, performance and significant change projects.
• Oversee enterprise agreements and Awards implementation and contribute to bargaining across contexts.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to ER/HR team members and build capability.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with unions to promote industrial harmony.
• Represent the University in meetings and negotiations with unions and in employment-related proceedings.
• Lead development, maintenance and review of HR policy with employment/industrial relations elements.
• Participate in the HR Leadership Team and promote a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance.
