Northholm Grammar School in Arcadia, NSW, seeks an experienced Head of Commercial Studies to lead a rigorous program across Commerce, Business Studies, Economics and Legal Studies. • Coach, mentor and develop staff and support strong subject knowledge.
• Create enrichment opportunities through guest speakers, competitions, industry links and visits.
• Manage Department operations, resources, budget and compliance; collaborate with HSIE leadership.

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Studies educator and leader to lead a contemporary and academically rigorous program at Northholm Grammar. The portfolio includes Commerce, Business Studies, Economics and Legal Studies where applicable, offering an opportunity to connect strong disciplinary knowledge with the commercial, economic and legal issues shaping the world beyond the classroom.

The Head of Commercial Studies will lead curriculum, teaching, assessment and staff development across the Department, building students' commercial awareness, economic and legal literacy, analytical thinking and capacity to make well-reasoned judgements using evidence and contemporary examples.

Key Responsibilities include:

Providing clear educational and professional leadership for Commercial Studies and building a collaborative, accountable Department culture.

Leading curriculum planning, teaching, assessment and continuous improvement across subjects in the Commercial Studies portfolio.

Ensuring compliance with relevant NESA syllabus, assessment and HSC requirements.

Promoting explicit teaching of disciplinary knowledge, terminology, analytical frameworks, case-study methods, quantitative skills and evidence-based argument.

Using student achievement and assessment data to identify trends, strengthen teaching and improve student outcomes.

Coaching, mentoring and developing staff and supporting strong disciplinary and contemporary subject knowledge.

Creating appropriate enrichment opportunities through guest speakers, competitions, enterprise activities, industry links, court or business visits and workshops.

Managing Department operations, resources, budget and compliance and collaborating with the Head of HSIE and other academic leaders where appropriate.

Applicants should possess the following:

A strong record as an exemplary teacher in one or more Commercial Studies disciplines and demonstrated capacity to lead and inspire others.

Deep knowledge of commercial, business, economic and/or legal education and relevant NESA syllabus, assessment and HSC requirements.

Demonstrated ability to lead curriculum improvement and connect disciplinary knowledge with contemporary commercial, economic and legal contexts.

Capacity to analyse student learning data and translate evidence into practical actions that improve student outcomes.

Demonstrated skill in coaching, mentoring, moderation, feedback and staff development.

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage complex and contemporary subject matter professionally.

Strong organisational, administrative and assessment-management skills, with sound judgement and initiative.

Current NESA teacher accreditation and a valid Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain and maintain these requirements.
