Frankie & George Cafe in Brisbane City is seeking an experienced Head Barista to lead our coffee programme and elevate the cafe experience. This full-time role focuses on consistency, quality, and innovation in every cup, while mentoring junior baristas and overseeing daily operations.

You will drive beverage standards, manage equipment maintenance, and contribute to a warm, inclusive team culture that supports growth and exceptional guest service.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of professional barista experience.
• Recognised barista certification or equivalent qualification in coffee preparation.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to train and motivate team members.
• Food safety and hygiene certifications preferred.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and serving espresso-based beverages with precision and creativity.
• Leading, training and mentoring junior baristas and cafe staff.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing and serving high-quality espresso-based beverages, specialty coffees and other drinks with precision and creativity
• Leading, training and mentoring junior baristas and cafe staff to develop their skills and maintain consistent service standards
• Managing coffee equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and ensuring all machines are functioning optimally
• Overseeing inventory management of coffee beans, milk, syrups and other beverage supplies
• Developing and implementing new coffee menu items, seasonal specials and innovative drink creations
• Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations
• Providing exceptional customer service, engaging with guests and building strong relationships
• Monitoring quality standards and consistency across all beverages served
• Supporting cafe management with operational tasks, scheduling and shift coordination
• Staying current with coffee industry trends, techniques and best practices

What we're looking for

• Minimum 3 years of professional barista experience, with demonstrated expertise in espresso preparation and coffee knowledge
• Recognised barista certification or equivalent qualification in coffee preparation
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to train and motivate team members
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality and consistency
• In-depth knowledge of coffee varieties, origins, brewing methods and flavour profiles
• Experience operating and maintaining espresso machines and other cafe equipment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining composure during busy periods
• Food safety and hygiene certifications preferred
• A passion for coffee and a desire to continuously improve and innovate
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including mornings, weekends and public holidays
