Job summary

Penny For Pound in Melbourne's Moorabbin HQ is seeking a Head Baker to lead our team of Bakers across early morning and day shifts. You will drive sourdough and bakery production to meet wholesale and retail needs while mentoring staff and managing rostering and costs.

You will uphold high standards of quality, train the team, and work with the pastry team and wholesale manager to ensure a well‑run operation and positive customer experiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years experience as a baker with a reputable company.
• At least 2 years of kitchen management experience.
• Experience rostering, stock control and ordering.
• Experience in product development and costing.
• Experience in team management, hiring and training.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team of Bakers across early morning and day shifts.

At Penny for Pound we are focused on producing high quality bread and pastries for our customers. We supply baked goods to some of Melbourne's best cafes, restaurants and hotels, and have 3 of our own venues. Our friendly team of chefs and bakers operate out of our HQ in Moorabbin, baking fresh 7 days per week. We strive to be the best we can be and are looking for like minded individuals to lead the team to success.

About You:

As Head Baker you will manage our team of Bakers working across early morning and day shifts. You will lead the team in meeting wholesale and retail production needs for Bread products, as well as assisting and liaising with the pastry team and wholesale manager as required.

You will have significant experience in all aspects of sourdough bread and bakery products, including but not limited to; mixing, shaping, oven work, proving, troubleshooting, QC etc. The ideal candidate will have experience in rostering, stock control and ordering, product development and costing, team management, hiring and training.

You will ensure consistency of offering, and control the quality of baked goods produced by the team for our customers. You will ensure the team follows proper process, assist in setting up new systems, and lead by example to set high standards You will manage, train and mentor staff to create a well rounded skill set, and meet labour budgets and targets. You will remain quality and culture focused, ensuring that customers, staff, and wholesale partners have a positive experience.

You should have a minimum of 5 years experience working as a baker with a reputable company, and at least 2 years of kitchen management experience. The successful candidate will have a growth mindset and be keen to progress their career. This position requires both hands on kitchen production work, and also leadership and team management.
