Job summary

So Code Limited is seeking a Hardware Engineer in Cambridge, on-site, to lead electronics hardware design for automotive-grade systems. You will own designs from concept to production, covering architecture, schematic capture, SPICE verification, and validation, including EMC testing and environmental qualification.

You will work with manufacturing partners to optimise cost and ensure manufacturability, while delivering clear documentation and robust test capabilities within a fast-moving team.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in electronics hardware design, automotive/regulated industries beneficial.
• Strong analogue and mixed-signal circuit design with motor/solenoid drive, MOSFET switching and current sensing.
• Experience with microcontroller-based designs and interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Experience with design analysis techniques - SPICE, derating, DFMEA, worst-case analysis.
• Track record of commissioning, verification and validation including EMC and environmental testing.
• Comfortable with industry-standard processes and thorough design documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own designs end-to-end from architecture through to production.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and CEM partners on cost-down and DFM.
• Produce clear, thorough design documentation and test plans.

Hardware Engineer

Cambridge | On-site (5 days)

Do you want to take a design all the way from concept through to full production, rather than handing it off halfway? Do you have a passion for automotive engineering and want to see your work go into vehicles on the road?

We're working with an established automotive technology business, developing safety-critical electronics hardware for complex electromechanical systems - think active suspension, active aero and powered door products - as they look to appoint a Hardware Engineer to join their growing team.

You’ll have the opportunity to own designs end to end: architecture, requirements capture and schematic capture through to verification, validation and production - covering circuit design (H-bridge, MOSFET switching, current sensing, op-amps, microcontroller peripherals, SPI/I2C/CAN/LIN/Ethernet), SPICE simulation, DFMEAs and WCCA, plus commissioning and EMC/environmental testing. You’ll also work with manufacturing and CEM partners on cost-down and design-for-manufacture.

What You’ll Bring:

• 2+ years experience in electronics hardware design- experience in automotive/regulated industries would be beneficial


• Strong analogue and mixed-signal circuit design experience, including motor/solenoid drive, MOSFET switching and current sensing


• Experience with microcontroller-based designs and common communications interfaces (SPI, I2C, CAN, LIN, Ethernet)


• Experience with design analysis techniques - SPICE simulation, derating, DFMEA, worst-case circuit analysis


• A track record of taking designs through commissioning, verification and validation, including EMC and environmental testing


• Comfortable working to industry-standard processes and producing clear, thorough design documentation

Also Valued:

• Experience designing safety-related or functionally safe hardware


• PCB layout and routing experience, ideally using third-party layout resources


• Experience taking a design from architecture through to full production


• Design for test and design for qualification experience
  
• Confidence writing simple hardware test software


• A hands-on lab background - scopes, signal generators, DMMs, soldering through-hole and SMT components
