Job description

We're a lean product development firm based in Melbourne, focused on bringing success for our clients.

We turn ideas into real, scalable electronic products. Combining electronics, embedded, and software expertise, we deliver end-to-end development - from concept and prototyping through to production and launch.

The industries we work across are vast - automotive, consumer, electrical, homewares, medical, and IoT - and our clients range from 1-person startups who need an engineering team, through to large enterprise companies needing external expertise.

As a boutique team built on reputation and results, we're looking for our next key hire.

About the Role

The role is hands-on, where you'll take real ownership of electronics design on client projects.

At the start of projects, you'll help workshop the technical requirements, shape the solution architecture, and build proof-of-concept systems to demonstrate function.

You'll design production-ready hardware from schematic through to layout and manufacturing release, bring up and troubleshoot prototypes in the lab, and work alongside our firmware engineers to integrate and verify hardware and firmware together into a fully working system.

You'll work closely with team members who share ideas on technical direction, provide design reviews, and assist with client management across projects in a collaborative environment.

What To Expect

Working in a small, tight team (3-4 developers) in a high-performing consulting environment.

Client-facing responsibilities, including technical project management with support from peers.

Varied work that rewards good priority management and strong communication.

Opportunities to building our operations, processes, and overall culture.

Working-from-home and flexible hour options available after a successful probation period.

Responsibilities

Design production-quality electronics for commercial, mass-produced products

Researching and nominating supporting hardware outside of the PCB (displays, cables, adaptors, antennas, batteries, etc.)

Procure and build new prototypes and performing PCB bring-up

Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and system-level issues using standard and advanced lab equipment (oscilloscope, power supply, logic analyser, etc.).

Transfer designs into mass production - preparing data packs, work instructions, coordinating with offshore and onshore production teams

Collaborate closely with industrial designers to develop custom enclosures, or source and design electronics into off-the-shelf enclosures

Be the technical lead on small/medium projects - planning, risk management, coordinating suppliers, and engaging directly with clients with support from management

Workshopping system requirements, selecting key components to design a solution architecture, and creating verification plans for testing complete systems.

Support with general operations – handling deliveries, hosting workshops, continual improvement, process development, etc.

Qualifications

Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering degree (Bachelor or Masters).

8+ years of experience in electronics design.

Previous consulting/services-provider experience, working directly with clients across different projects.

Strong Altium Designer skills (shortcuts, project setup, parametric design, reuse, advanced features)

Previous use of Altium 365 (managed component libraries, shared projects, design release, versioning)

Experience with complex, high-density PCB layout, including BGA fan-out/escape routing and DDR memory routing (length matching, impedance control, stack-up definition).

General hardware design and development skills (cabling, enclosure modifications, systems integration)

Design for EMC compliance and for manufacture and test (DFM/DFT).

Nice To Have

Mechanical/3D CAD skills (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) for enclosure fit checks and STEP exchange with industrial designers.

Basic firmware skills in C - able to write and debug bring-up code, exercise peripherals, and troubleshoot hardware/firmware interaction on new boards.

Production test fixture and test jig design.

General scripting/software skills (Python) for test tools, automation, and data analysis.

Experience designing for regulated markets - medical (IEC 60601, IEC 62304), functional safety (IEC 61508), automotive (ISO 26262), or hazardous environments (IEC 60079).

Inner-city location with access to tram, train, and bus transit options.

Shared on-site car parking.

Work phone for client and internal communications.

Opportunity to travel to client sites for collaboration, EMC/safety testing, and manufacturing transfer.
