Job summary

Glenorchy City Council is seeking a motivated Trade Assistant to join our Fleet, Workshop and Stores team. This hands‑on role provides practical support across mechanical services, fabrication, workshop operations and stores activities to help maintain Council's vehicles, plant, equipment and facilities.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting in mechanical, welding/fabrication, workshop or stores environments.
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to changing priorities.
• Good communication, literacy and time-management skills.
• Physical capability for outdoor/manual work.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with vehicle, plant and equipment servicing and repairs.
• Support welding and fabrication activities.
• Assist with setup of new assets and disposal of surplus equipment.
• Coordinate external servicing and repairs as required.
• Deliver and distribute fuel to work crews.
• Support workshop, yard and stores operations.
• Operate a forklift and other authorised equipment.
• Complete general maintenance tasks around the Works Centre.
• Maintain accurate records, timesheets and documentation.
• Contribute to a safe and productive team environment.
