Job summary

Redland City Council is seeking two Mechanical Trades Assistants to support the City Water team in maintaining and operating essential water and wastewater infrastructure across our network. This hands-on role offers variety, teamwork and the chance to develop practical mechanical skills on treatment plants, pumping stations and reservoirs.

Working alongside qualified Mechanical Fitters, you’ll perform maintenance tasks, operate tools, and contribute to safe, reliable community service.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work outdoors and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Experience in workshop, maintenance, construction, utilities or similar hands-on environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools safely.
• Experience assisting with maintenance, repair or installation activities.
• Strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist Mechanical Fitters with the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater assets.
• Assist with the installation, commissioning and servicing of pumps and mechanical equipment.
• Carry out equipment greasing, cleaning, alignment and general maintenance activities.
• Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Undertake mowing, vegetation management and general upkeep of Council assets.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and support administrative activities as required.
• Contribute to a safe workplace by following Council's health, safety and environmental procedures.
