Job summary

Recovery Station seeks a Graduate Occupational Therapist for a structured 12-month program starting now or in 2027. You’ll receive daily supervision and training from experienced clinicians, and learn alongside other graduates in a supportive setting.

The role primarily services a diverse adult caseload in clinic and community settings, with a path toward clinical specialisation such as home mods or mental health. Travel and admin support are included.

Responsibilities

• Balance days between home visits, office reports, and supervision sessions.
• Work from home options alongside clinic days to write reports.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team across Physio, Psychology, and Exercise Physiology.

We believe that when you choose us for your Graduate role, you are entrusting us with teaching you the core skills that will form the foundation for an amazing career to come. With this in mind, we've set out a structured, comprehensive 12-month plan:

You will start with a classroom style orientation so you can meet your team, play around with your new laptop and our online database and do some pre-reading and training modules

We then take you out to ridealong with your supervisor so you can observe and ask questions (we can do a day of this in your interview process if you haven't had a community placement but want to know if you'll like it)

Your supervisor will then begin shadowing your sessions, letting you take the reins and providing updates so that you'll feel confident when you begin seeing clients independently

Throughout your Graduate Program you will receive different forms of daily and weekly supervision and supportvarying from one on one time to group sessions

You can access additional training content anytime via our online resource library

You'll attend multi-disciplinary meetings and enjoy opportunities for collaboration as you share clients with other disciplines such as Physio, Psych or Exercise Physiology

One of the best days of the year is our companywide annual training day where the entire business (circa 135) comes together to learn from external presenters tailored each discipline

If you find you're particularly passionate about a certain area, we have pathways to clinical specialisation such as home mods, AT or Mental health. Your first year is all about building a solid broad base of clinical knowledge and then we can set new goals with you once you are settled in.

You've worked hard to get to this point so we need have some fun at work too:

We have an ongoing wellbeing program that involves monthly social events. Recently we've gone to an escape room, mini golf, ten pin bowling, obstacle courses, an amazing race around the city, wheelchair basketball + rugby, made dumplings, candles and gingerbread houses, paint & sip, and celebrated important dates such as International Women's Day and mental health month and many others

You will celebrate your milestones in your Grad program with a Graduate celebration at your 12-month mark

To allow you more time to focus on clinical work, you'll have someone allocated to you in our admin team to assist with booking client appointments for you and assisting with admin taks.

The Role

As a community- based team, we predominantly see our clients in their homes, group homes, aged care facilities or in a public setting that's relevant for them eg out and about testing new a new wheelchair. We want to see our clients where they are most comfortable and that's relevant to their goals.

Some of our team schedule a full day of seeing 3 or 4 clients one day, then balance this the next by working from home or having an office day to write reports, prepare resources, have supervision / training. Or you can mix things up and split your day depending how you like to work!

A community role is great as it allows you to have genuine flexibility and control over how you structure your days and therefore you don't miss your afternoon sport or having the social life you've sacrificed whilst studying!

You will gain lots of variety in this role as you service a predominantly adult, NDIS & DVA caseload (12 yrs old and up) living with:

Developmental disabilities (autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, Down syndrome)

Neurological conditions (stroke, acquired brain injury, brain tumour, multiple sclerosis)

Degenerative diseases (Parkinson’s disease, MS, motor neurone disease, Huntington’s disease, dementia)

In your Grad Program you will:

Support clients with a range of tasks such as life skills - budgeting/shopping/travel/ cooking, pressure care, sensory, cognitive re-training, prescribing equipment and assistive tech, upper limb + fine & gross motor therapy plus home assessments and modifications (initially minor and you can receive more training in complex mods)

You'll sharpen your clinical reasoning and get really good at completing comprehensive assessments and reporting eg initials, functional capacity, Home & Living, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) or Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

Along with having the freedom to work from home, we have clinics in Toronto and Maitland so you can have a home base to work from. Depending where you live we'll ensure you see clients in your area and you can also choose to use the office for appointments, to write reports and spend time with your Supervisor and hang out with other new Grads!

Recovery Station provides community and clinic based allied health services, with a strong focus on disability and senior health. For over 20 years we have grown and now proudly offer services in the community across Sydney, the Hunter, Central Coast, Tamworth and nationally via telepractice.

Together, our passionate multidisciplinary team of OTs, Mental Health OT’s, Psychologists, BSP's, Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Dietitians and Allied Health Assistants collaboratively share their knowledge and experience to holistically design an individualised service to help improve the quality of life for people living with a disability or looking to age as independently as possible.
