Qualifications

• Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drawing software would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of cost estimates, quotations and tender submissions.

Cathay Chung Yue Estate Pty Ltd is seeking a talented Graduate Engineer to join our Civil/Structural Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to launch your engineering career with a dynamic organisation based in Rhodes NSW. As a full-time position, you will be working on-site as we develop the next generation of engineers within our growing business. This role offers hands-on experience across a range of civil and structural engineering projects, providing the perfect foundation for your professional development and progression within the industry.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of cost estimates, quotations and tender submissions.
• Review architectural, structural and facade drawings, specifications and other tender documentation.
• Undertake quantity take-offs and material measurements from drawings and project documents.
• Obtain and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations and assist with cost analysis.
• Maintain and update estimating spreadsheets, cost databases and pricing records.
• Assist with identifying scope gaps, discrepancies, exclusions and design changes during the estimating process.
• Maintain an organised document control system for drawings, specifications, RFIs, submissions, correspondence and other project documentation.
• Track drawing revisions and ensure the latest approved documents are readily available to relevant personnel.
• Assist project teams with preparation and issue of transmittals, registers and document submissions.
• Maintain tender and project registers, including drawing, RFI, quotation and procurement registers.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants and internal project personnel to obtain required information.
• Assist with preparation of variation and cost assessment documentation when required.
• Support the Operation Manager and Estimating Manager with general technical and commercial administration.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Construction or related Engineering.
• 0-2 years experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and construction documentation.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and ability to work with spreadsheets and cost data.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drawing software would be advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and document management skills.
• Good numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also supporting a project team.
• Strong willingness to learn construction, facade and estimating practices.
• Previous internship or graduate experience in the construction or facade industry.
• Understanding of Australian construction documentation and tender processes.
• Experience with document control systems such as Aconex, Procore or similar platforms.
• Basic understanding of facade systems, cladding, windows and building construction would be highly regarded.

Work Arrangement: Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits as required.

What we're looking for

• A relevant degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
• Recent graduate or early-career engineer with limited professional experience
• Strong knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles, theories and practices
• Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software and engineering analysis tools
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in technical work
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Effective communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly
• A collaborative approach to working within teams and willingness to learn from experienced professionals
• Knowledge of Australian Building Standards (AS/NZS) and relevant engineering codes an advantage
• A current or eligible Professional Engineer in Training (PE) status, or willingness to pursue this qualification
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical documentation software
