Job summary

Smardt Inc. in Bayswater North, Victoria, is seeking a Graduate Controls Software Engineer to join our industrial automation team. You will support PLC and HMI development for global chiller systems, gaining hands-on experience under senior engineers.

We welcome recent graduates in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering who are curious, technically capable and eager to learn, with exposure to Python/Java/C#/C++, Git, and IEC 61131-3 concepts.

Qualifications

• Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering degree, completed or nearing completion.
• Foundational understanding of control systems and software development.
• Strong interest in automation and industrial controls.

Responsibilities

• Learn to develop and test PLC control logic (IEC 61131-3) with guidance.
• Assist with HMI applications development and testing, including JavaScript.
• Work with senior engineers to maintain and improve PLC/HMI codebase.
• Support troubleshooting and testing of new software features.
• Assist with FAT/SAT activities and documentation practices.
• Collaborate with technical teams on product development.
• Develop knowledge of industrial communications and HVAC controls.
