Job summary

SMEC in North Sydney seeks a motivated Graduate Civil Engineer to join its Rail & Metro team. You will gain hands-on project exposure, contributing to design, analysis and documentation across major rail and transport infrastructure projects.

The two-year GDP combines mentoring, structured learning, and on-the-job experience, with opportunities to develop consulting skills and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous).

Responsibilities

• You’ll support the delivery of real infrastructure projects from day one—contributing to design, analysis and documentation while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to site and project delivery.
• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how designs are implemented on live projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones.
