Job summary

Bathurst Health Service seeks a Staff Specialist / Visiting Medical Officer–Geriatrician to lead contemporary geriatric services in a regional NSW setting. The role focuses on frailty, cognition, and complex comorbidity within a multidisciplinary team, with leadership across the aged care program and clinical governance initiatives.

You will engage in comprehensive geriatric assessment, consultanted care, and teaching while supporting flow from hospital to home and aged care facilities.

Qualifications

• Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist and/or overseas trained pathways.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
• Strong clinical communication using IT and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
• Availability to participate in an on call roster and respond on site in a timely manner.
• Fellowship of the applicable College.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist clinical care and leadership for older patients with frailty, cognitive impairment and complex comorbidity.
• Lead development of contemporary geriatric services and improve patient outcomes.
• Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and case conferences.
• Mentor and educate medical, nursing and allied health staff.
• Drive quality improvement, service innovation and clinical governance initiatives.
• Support safe transitions from hospital to home or residential aged care.
